GT156 vs GT200

Hi all,

I sold my Suzuki Swift Sport last weekend and I'm now looking at buying a RCZ (around £8,000-£9,000). There seems to be a good choice out there but I'm kind of stuck between the 156 and the 200.

From what I can tell, aside from the power difference the only changes between the two are bigger brakes, different front hubs and a bit more (suspension) bracing there's nothing else between them?

In real world driving is there much difference?

Oh and I'm quite keen to get a model with the Xenon headlamps - are these a worthy upgrade?

I'm sure this may have been covered before so apologies in advance if it has.

I've not driven a 156, but I can tell you my 200 is the best handling car I've driven.
Although to be fair, for about the last 10 years I've only driven 4 door saloons..

My last 2 cars (RCZ, and Peugeot 508 GT) had/have xenons and yes they are worth it.
I drove a non xenon Ford Focus a few weeks back and it was like driving while holding candles in front of you.

Xenons depend whether or not you do much night driving, but they are fantastic and they're directional too!

In my opinion the xenon pack is THE best optional extra that was available.
Don't think I will ever be able to go back to a car without them now!

Having got one with xenons and one without, I must admit they are noticeably better.

In terms of 156 or 200 I'd go for the 200 as the extra poke is fun.

The 200 is a better engine altogether and the directional xenons are a must have IMHO.

I cannot agree more with the comments already on here.

I to have had the GT200 and I loved it, only got rid for the R model which is an all together different beast !

You want to try finding one with quads as well.

Took me 12 months of viewings to find 2 with quads that ticked all the other boxes as well.

49k, 2011 200 GT. I think apart from the body decals its got everything (off the top of my head)

I test drove a Mk1 156 sport first & loved it. Then I test drove a Mk1 200GT which didn't have any kits & was blown away totally.
The next car we found was a Mk2 200GT with just about every kit available on it (except quads ) and there was no way I was leaving the garage without buying it. Trouble was my budget at the time was up to £15-£16k & the car was a straight £18k from available cars in the midlands. Marvellous things car loans :thumbup:

Both great cars I would go on spec upgrades and condition mileage history etc, if a 156 turns up a simple ecu remap will take it not far off 200 Bhp anyway. :thumbup:

I would go for the 200, but have owned a 156 and can't fault the performance. Was pretty good. I wuld aim more for the spec, reason why my pick was the GT. Back then, was just the mk1, but to be honest I like both.
Even now it's hard to find a good looking car with all the toys I got from my 2010 GT: leather, front and rear sensors, auto diming mirror, auto folding wing mirrors, heated electronic seats with driver memory. Standard sound was pretty good. Just wished for xenons.

If that's the car you have now DKZ - you would have had to take me away in a straight jacket if I couldn't get it, it looks amazing in that picture, no wonder you spend so much time cleaning it !! :thumbup: :thumbup:
