my car is going to garage today to have flywheel and clutch changed because of that grinding sound which seems common on rczs also gonna change gearbox oil to some redline mtl hopefully this will make it better.

yoyo just reviving this thread, so the problem i have is that from gear 1- 2 and 2-3 it will make a tap-bang sort of noise. The strange thing is it only happens when the car has been driven a while, when it is cold there is no clunk at all and gear changes are abit more fluid if you know what i mean.

I did have a clutch and flywheel change recently and got them to change oil to redline mtl which hopefully they did, it felt smoother here and there.

What i find strange is that once driven abit the gear change looses it smoothness and gets clunky and loud taps i sat in my friends rcz and his is quiet. Do you think it is the oil as it only happens when warm? maybe too thin?

any help would be appreciated it ruins the experience of the car i have to be so gentle with gear changes when in busy areas so no one can hear lol

if you had work done recently, go back to the garage and have them check their work.
They may not have tightened all bolts or the like.

I wrote that because it reminds me of the maintenance work that my father had done years ago on the clutch of his Peugeot 505 GRD after which it was very hard to change gear and they had forgotten to tighten the bolts and we were basically driving without clutch!
But if you can match revs, who needs a clutch?

It has been doing it before i had work done, also found driving gently does lesson the sound and changes smoother. If i drive abit hard then i get the clunk mostly from 1 to 2 and sometimes 2 to 3 rest of gears quiet wonder if it a mount or something?

I would have thought that if it was a mount then you would get some issues whether the car was hot or cold. It sounds like your problem is present all the time, but gets worse when the oil gets hotter, which does make me wonder if you have the correct oil/amount of oil in the gearbox.

As you have recently had the oil replaced with redline, it would make me suspicious that it is not the case, and maybe your issues have not improved because the oil is the same that was in there before ?

There is of course always the chance that it is something that is mechanically broken, which would also be the same before and after a gearbox oil change.

I don’t know if there is a way to check what oil is in there now, maybe you need to have a transmission specialist check your car out, I think they would possibly know exactly what the problem is likely to be very quickly.

Good luck with getting it sorted, and don’t forget to update the thread with what steps you take and what the outcome is

I was about to post a similar issue until I seen your post! Mine makes a metallic clunk on and off the throttle and changing gear but only when cold. Once its up to temp no clunking? I have checked mounts, bolts etcbut all seems ok? Car had a new clutch and flywheel 2k miles ago so I'm at a loss what's happening now?...

Finally got this resolved. I had purchased a brand new Febi Bilstein engine mount as the original has worn. So checked everything but the new mount as it had only been on the car a few months...well it was the Febi engine mount, replaced with old ''worn'' mount and clunk now gone!

Crikey glad you’ve sorted the problem but who would have thought a new part was the problem??

Yes of all the things that was the last I imagined it would be - especially as the part was Febi Bilstein which I though were good quality - lesson learned!

Apparently its another Generic fault that haunts the RCZ my 200 GT does it usually after a had a longish run I assumed it was poss clutch related but like the flying Dutchman it only appears when you least expect it to happen I spoke to my mate who runs a garage & he reckons it maybe possibly the differential casing the clunk during gear changes I have heard about the engine mounts being problematic & it was mainly the top mount on the Timing chain side ?

A couple of years ago, I had my front top mounts replaced under a “notice” from Peugeot.

Apparently a notice is like a recall, but it stops short of contacting owners. If an owner takes their car in to a dealer and mentions a concern about a part, the dealer should check to see if there is a recall or notice regarding the part. If there is, it is replaced foc.

I just happened to mention a slight knocking from somewhere at the front & they replaced the front strut top mounts. 👍
