you're right to ask to see the belt - how do you know if (1) they actually replaced the belt and (2) if it even needed replacing at all. It's your money and it's your car and you're right to question this work that may or may not be required! This is just another shameful way for dealers to make more money!

True. It's the timing chain I really wanted to see. They won't let me have it, but said I can see it. Even though technically speaking it's my property.
It's not just the inflated cost if their servicing, it's the extras they try to sell you. On top of that, they inspected my front brakes. Wasn't something I'd asked them to do. Makes me suspicious.

All the parts they replace are sent back to pug so pug will pay for work done , so they told me . Showed me all the components when I picked car up .

Can you tell the difference now it's been done ,I could but that's prob down to ecu software upgrade.

Never mentioned anything about other potential damage so will have to suck it and see.

Service will be by pug next time as it's mid warranty then will go to a mate of mine to do .

Picked car up.
Will post a pic if the old auxiliary belt, as that was left in side the car.
Service manager or parts manager came over with the the old timing belt kit. Boxed, old parts were put back into the new parts boxes, ready to go back to Peugeot. So didn't really get chance to take photos. He had hold of them in a tray. Wasn't going to let go of them lol. Noticed the tensioner bolt. Large bolt with a thread. That was about it. They charged me £30 for the aux belt, as I was expecting to pay vat on it.
I also asked if the new chain kits were revised, he said he didn't know, but that they all had the same parts numbers. So may not be.
The attached pic is of the inside edge of my old auxiliary belt, part that adjoins the rollers. Obvious wear to the inner groves (chunks out of the belt). No obvious wear to the reinforced outer belt area. Only covered 30k from new. This part is a serviceable item, but should be replaced at the 10 year interval or at 120k, whichever comes first. It's made by Dayco.

Started it up from being stood for two days and......... it seems relatively quite. So hopefully it's sorted now :)
I've also noticed that timing chain kits (OEM), are also quite widely available. So not too an expensive fix for cars that are now out of pug warranty, anyone wanting to use an independent garage to fit one.

Does anyone have any more info regarding the ecu software update?

I have just booked mine in for its 3rd service, and I asked if they could do the update while they had it (going in on 6/9) and they told me they had no knowledge of any update :eusa-think:

It would be helpful if I knew a bit more about the update before I take it in cos I think, as a lot of people have found with their main dealers, they can be a bit slack at that sort of thing. :wtf:

The first dealer I went to, didn't mention to me that there was an outstanding update for my vehicle. Neither did they seem to want to help with my warranty/chain issue.
I then decided to ring another dealer. As soon as I did, they then mentioned to me that there was an outstanding update relating to timing chain/engine noise. After booking it in, asking for more info. They didn't come forward with anymore info. Just said it was on their system. Didn't make any difference to the noisy cold running issue to my car. Had to have the chain kit replaced anyway.
As far as I know the update is only available for the mk 2 156's.
Slack is an under statement lol. I was under the impression from the first dealer I'd rung that there was no money in warranty work for them. As their bread and butter was in top price servicing and repairs.
I'll definitely be ringing around when the 3rd service is due in Jan. As I'll def be taking out their extended warranty.
Neither do I think the dealer service generally speaking was any worse or better than any other manufacturer I've used for warranty repairs or servicing.

After having the camchain replaced by the dealer. I have noticed it's starting to get noisy again from a cold start, not quite as bad, but there none the less. I'm not even sure if it ever was totally quite, after the chain & tensioner was replaced.
Are all the 156's noisy to some extent from a cold start? Rattle type/ticking noise for at least 2 minutes. Sometimes from when it's only been stood for an hour, then re-started.
I'm going to leave the car for a couple of nights, start it up again. If its noisy, may take it back to the dealers again with some video footage.
Tried it again after being stood for 3 days. Seemed within the realms of acceptability. Does seem a little quieter than prior to the camchain replacement. Still rattles a bit at times. Case of living with it, I think.

I e-mailed Peugeot customer service to enquire about this update that some have mentioned. Nothing required for my car. Do I believe them, well no but what else can you do.

RCZash,
The dealers seem sketchy about giving info out of this update or they did so when I asked after taking the wife's motor in. There again they didn't like me looking at the old camchain & tensioner when it was replaced. Service manager holding on tightly to the box of old parts. Reluctant for me to have a look through. Stupidity really.
Then there's all the extras the dealers like to sell you everytime the car goes in for servicing or repairs. The jobs they point out that don't need doing lol. Vauxhall are no better, mind.
Although I may be tempted to go with pugs extended warranty at around £280 when it's out of manufacturers warranty. Especially with the camchain issue.

My dealer insisted that they do not automatically "offer" any software or hardware updates. They will only check for them if the customer complains about a specific issue, then they will check to see if there are any notices about that issue.
They also said that there was no way any software update could rectify a timing chain rattle. That could only be cured by replacing the worn parts.

I have just taken out the Peugeot extended warranty, as mine is out of manufacturers warranty on the 23rd of this month.
£229 which can be paid at £ 22.90 per month for 10 months, no extra charge for spreading the amount instead of a single payment

Sounds like the usual poor service from a dealer to me. If there was an update on your vehicle, surely it would just be a case of them checking their systems?
Was the £229 to include AA home start? I think the pug warranty is worth it. One claim, you've got your money back. Do you know how long you can continue on with the extended warranty?
I will also continue on with pug servicing, although I'll ring around dealerships for their best price. Even though I could service it myself, a lot cheaper. Just don't want any excuses from the warranty company, not to undertake any repairs. knowing what they're like to deal with, even when you have it serviced by them.
Cheers.

I paid £279 for the warranty, £30 I think for AA cover then the £20 upgrade to cover non vehicle problems eg punctures, keys locked in car etc.

Looks like you have everything covered then. The wife's motor requires it's 3rd service & first mot in Jan, but has an extended pug warranty until April next year. So if I were going to extend it, would do it from then. I'm also tempted to have it serviced by a good Indy, not bother with the extended warranty. Could potentially save around £380 by not using peugeot for servicing or taking out their extended warranty. Pay your money, take your chance lol.

Is it even possible to lock your keys in an RCZ?

Don't know and hopefully not going to try but at least if I get a puncture they can come out and sort it without me having to give them £120 (each time) just for coming out to a punctured tyre.

Boroboy you can still have the extended warranty just get the garage to use genuine peugeot parts otherwise it will be easier for them not to stand the warranty claim, and it's not a Peugeot warranty, although the offered by them.

I would think so. Just take the key out of the ignition, leave it on the drivers seat. Shut the car door, car would then self lock.

Cheers. I did realise, but you have to take your car into the dealership for any work to be done. Run the gauntlet of 199 safety checks & extra work they try to sell you whilst your there. Part I don't like about dealerships. Aircon regas sir? Your font pads have unevenly wore down by 1mm per side, would you like us to change them sir? Service club? That's what I got last time I was in for the timing chain replacement under warranty lol.
I do know of a mechanic that has his own garage & mainly repairs reno's & pugs. Would service my car for around a third of the price of a dealer, trust him too. I'm tempted.
Besides the engine rattle, the rcz has been A1. Wife loves it. I just clean it, being black  I do drive it from time to time :D

But because it is not a Peugeot warranty you just have to get the claim approved and tell them which garage you are using (I think as long as they are VAT registered)..
Hopefully the garage won't mind dealing with the warranty company.
