Mines a mk2 and the same problem 2013 model. For 4 days they told me overnight .
When it happens the revs are up on start to a round 1200 rpm when they drop below 900 rpm the noise goes away .
I will keep you posted on this , will you do the same Boroboy.

That does not sound like a good dealer response. I'd record it, the next time it's bad & show them the evidence.
When mine is at it's worst, sounds a lot worse that the link I put up.
I'll let you know what my dealer says when we get it back.

Went in this morning bit of a hooo haaa until he heard the recording I made . Oooo sounds like a tractor he said I could only agree. Told me there was a recall on the 1.6 THP 156 and they would update the software on the ecu.

As far as he was concerned the warranty is up on the 15th August and that would be the end of it any further problems would be at my expense . The dealers warranty would probably not cover it! I asked about pug extending the warranty with it being so close to the end but he was adamant the pug HQ would not do this .

They rang me late afternoon after stripping it down ,the tensioner needs replacing but he didn't know if it was the old type or the upgraded one, the chain was just within tolerance but they are changing that and the guides . They will download the new software and that should improve the fuel delivery etc , he said this should get rid of the intermittent judder under acceleration .

So we shall see on pick up tomorrow afternoon. Fingers crossed.

Thanks for keeping us updated. The software update did nothing for our rcz & engine noise. I'll be showing them my video too lol.
Pleased your getting sorted. I'll let you know how we get on. Hope the head tec is in tomorrow when I drop the car off. Will then show him the video. As it's intermittent.
Just dropped it off at the dealer's. Showed the video to the head tec. He agreed, said it didn't sound right. May have to strip the engine down further to make sure there's no further damage caused by the timing chain. At this point I'm pleased the car has a full Peugeot service history, still under manufacturers warranty.

Picked it up all seems well so far bit disappointing that there is no guarantee in the work as far as pug are concerned , but he assured me if it went wrong in the next 6 month they would put things right.

Shock horror it was the new tensioner that has failed , the old ones are flat and the new ones have a hole in the top ,do they I've no idea, but that's what he showed me along with all the pulleys ,guides and chain .

Ecu software updated. He wasn't sure why but as it was a recall they did it.

Will see how it goes over the next few weeks fingers crossed.

Pleased your sorted. Hope mine goes as well.
Are you going for their extended warranty? Think I will, when the time comes. Ours is due a service in Oct, 3rd one. This dealer quoted £250, ouch. May shop around closer to the time. Probably stay with pug servicing, esp if I'm going for their extended warranty too.
Now we know the Mk 2's are effected too, with the timing chain issues.

I have the dealers extended warranty , he suggested I contact them and see what is covered by it.

The 3rd service on mine is due sept at a cost of £169 apparently this is the smaller one the major next time would be nearer £350 but that covers everything.

told me this is the first mk2 he had seen with the chain rattle . All the parts that came off are on the way back to pug.

Hope you get a result tomorrow

£169 sounds reasonable. Think £250 was for a major service he quoted me for. As I think the previous dealer whom sold me the car only changed the oil and filter as s second service, when more should have been done.
They may have the car until Monday, dependent on whether the noise recreates it's self. Which it should with a bit of luck lol.

If you play them your video it should be obvious what the problem is, they stripped mine the same day so they could inspect the tensioner chain etc. you would think it would be easy to diagnose off the video.

Yes I showed it to the head tec. He agreed with me. Whe I mentioned the problem at the service desk & the issues on this forum relating to the timing chain tensioner. They seemed less helpful. Certainly wouldn't admit there was an issue with them.
Not forgetting it's a big inconvenience to us, these cars should be fit for purpose. We have better things to do than make multiple phone calls & visits to dealer's. Usual general dealer service. None manufacturer specific.

Update.
The dealer's have striped out the timing chain & tensioner, ordered new parts. Hopefully get car back middle of next week. Dealer said to run it after that, if any more noises. To take it back for further investigation. Hopefully, that'll be it.

Yes that would be a very interesting fact to know. I haven't heard of any of the revised parts failing, but I suppose it's inevitable that any part can fail, revised or not.

But a very good thing to know, so we can all keep an eye out.

[/color]Ask to see the one they pull out if it's flat on the head without the hole it's the mk 1 , bit worrying when he showed me the one off mine with the hole that being an indication of the new upgraded tensioner . Just hope it doesn't go again or it'll be a huge bill I don't want or need.
Why mid week it's only a four hour job .

I'll ask to see the old part, if I can take a photo, I will. That's is they let me see it. They had to order the part, after stripping it out, last Friday. That's the hold up.
Your extended warranty should cover another failure, if it were to happen again. Do you know of any other faults with the 156?
My wife has only covered 2k, since we bought ours from the dealers. Although it has covered 30k in total now.
Next service will be due 3k after the last one. Only covered 3k over the last year. Partly due to the fact the dealer had hold of it for 5 months, prior to us purchasing it. Only covered 200 miles.
Tempted to get an indy to service it next. Myself buying the oil & filter. Will probably reluctantly have it serviced by a pug dealer, after shopping around for the best price.
The head tec did say with the timing chain fault, it may be possible other engine components may have been damaged. I hope not, just need to keep an eye on it for a while.
I thought with BMW being involved with the engine manufacture, it would have been a reliable engine.

It is actually a collaboration with BMW only doing small things to a Peugeot engine.
One of the parts that is a common failure is the BMW timing chain guards.
Not sure who's sensors keep failing.

The stealers rung back. Whilst they were on. They noticed the auxiliary belt was split. Would you like us to replace it sir? No labour charge, as we had to take it off to replace the chain. Not covered under warranty £36. Ouch. Ok change it.
Do you use your air-conditioning much? We recommend a regas every two years at £40. No thanks.
Your inner and outer pads are wearing unevenly by 1mm per side. Would you like us to strip them down? No thanks.
I asked if I could keep my old chain? They said it has to go back to Peugeot. I replied it's my chain lol. They then said I could have a look at it. I will, then take a picture. Don't think I'll be using them for the next oil and filter service at £250.
I'm pleased I didn't sign up to their monthly service plan, not including the extras they try to sell you.
Made my mind up. Indy servicing fir me using OEM parts to keep warranty.
