Engine in bits

Engine Management light came on Tuesday night about a mile from home. Stopped car checked oil and water both spot on and drove home perfectly.

Rang Dealer Wednesday morning and they said they would look at it if I left the car all day with them.

Drove to the Dealer and the engine Management light had gone off. Thought to myself a sensor is playing up and it would be a quick fix.

When back at 5.30 to pick it up to find the top of the engine stripped off and drive belts dismantled.

They have told me that there are more checks to do on car and it might need a new cylinder head and tensionors.

Think this is a bit EXTREME when the car drove perfect into there workshop.

Update From Dealer

They have phoned me to say it needs a new cylinder head. I asked the reason why and the have said the Peugeot Technical have said that what it needs to stop management light coming on again.

Bad news is that no new cylinder head is available till mid April.

I have asked Dealer if it can be put back together again or supply me with another RCZ for the next 5 weeks.

I am awaiting a reply.

Update 17.00hr

Heard will not be here to a least 24th April and not guarranteed to be there then.

This is the bit I can not get my head round.

Peugeot have authorised a brand new complete engine that will delivered to dealer on the 14th March. The old engine has only covered 7,200 miles.

Good customer service but I think its a bit over the top for a engine management light that corrected itself the next day.

Should not complain if it solves the problem.

I hope you get your car sorted soon. It does seem a bit OTT but if it sorts out your problem once and for all, then all well and good

Why are you so hung up on this jassy? I don't think there are any car manufacturers that will give you like for like as a courtesy car, whatever the marque unless of course, it's Bentley or Aston Martin :eusa-think:

My husband's LandRover Discovery 4 was in for a service yesterday. What do you think he got, like for like? :eusa-think:
A smart car.......... I rest my case :D

I am sorry are we missing something here?
If a company takes my washing machine in and says it will take months to get the part but we will lend you a dishwasher (sort of same thing water in with detergent to clean the items inside), you would be happy with that ?
Sorry, at least an effort on the lone car should be made (and Smart car for Landrover is NOT, what if off-road driving was part of the day) at all times.

In my books it is sorted

Peugeot have agreed to fit an engine instead of a cylinder head to lesson the time frame my car will be off the road. The dealer has agreed a courtesy car which will be for a week instead of 7+ weeks.

As long as it gets me from A to B in that week I will be happy.

I do not hear of people complaining after an accident and drive around in a bodyshop courtesy car with the repairers name covered from head to foot over it.

So please no more comments about courtesy cars.

Has anybody else had problems with the cylinder head on their RCZ

Excellent that Peugeot are playing the game.

Still, makes me wonder what sort of stance they will adopt when a number of us start wandering outside the warranty period. Seems that it makes sense to have all these "nasties" happen to us now rather than later.

Maybe those of us Thanking the Big Man in the Sky that some of these things aren't happening to us are not the Lucky Ones after all :eusa-think:

Depends on the Buyer.

If the Buyer is a Dealer then probably no impact whatsoever.
If the Buyer is a Private, then they'll probably be wary about the new engine and about the reason given i.e. is it genuine or has the owner been thrashing it, some other underlying fault, etc.

The irony is that the car's engine is now "newer" than the rest of the car and has done less miles than the odo will actually read. Thinking on from there, wonder if they'll reset the odo :eusa-think:

Hi , just had the same problem with my RTZ , engine management light came on , car went into crawl mode , managed to limp home . Peugeot assist were called who rand a diagnostic check and stated that the petrol mixture was too rich but the car was ok to drive 4 miles to the Peugeot dealer. Car seemed to drive ok to the garage and I was followed by the breakdown vehicle.
Had a phone call from Peugeot this afternoon informing me that the vehicle needs a new Cylinder head and tensioners, vehicle only 7000 miles...not a happy bunny ! And very annoyed.
