Curses...it's finally happened!! Black solstice damaged!! :(

So I am posting this as an unusual feeling of rage  begins to subside! After 7 months, of almost OCD levels of care, one of my prized black solstice alloys has met the teeth of a vicious kerb!! Now, had this been solely my doing I would have been irritated with myself and uttered words at my own idiocy. However, as this was the direct result of a motorcyclist with a death wish my anger is two-fold. I am trying to remind myself that it could always have been worse. In this case it may well have resulted in a motorcycling being a rather smudged mark on my car or that of the oncoming vehicles.

In short, I was on a B road heading back into work. There are a few sections of this road that are very straight but none particularly long. I was aware on approaching traffic that there was a motorcyclist absolutely booting it up behind a couple of cars having just overtaken one in the distance. As the gap between us closed I thought to myself that there was no way he would now try to take the others. I was wrong! The gap now next to nothing was what he judged as being an opportune moment to pass and I was forced to brake hard and swerve. Obviously, I was unable to catch the plate as he belted on by. I felt the kerb bite and my heart sink. I pulled over at the next available opportunity to inspect the damage. I actually thought it would be much worse and feared damage to the bodywork. This is what met me...

Now, I know this could have been much worse and very much would have been had I not taken evasive action but it's still really wrangled me after the care I have taken to look after the alloys. Does anyone know if this can be repaired?! :eusa-think: If so, how much might I be looking at? The problem, in my mind, is the type of alloy that it is and so it would not be as easy to repair as say the sortilege alloys. Failing repair, do you think it would be possible to ask my dealership/Peugeot to source one replacement alloy? :eusa-think: I have scoured quickly this afternoon and drawn a blank to all these questions and any help or advice would be much appreciated!

I got mine done at PaintTechnic in Altens (behind Belmar Engineering) they did an excellent job (mind you I have 'plain' sportilege wheels) but I've heard excellent things about Wheel Specialist in Dyce - will get it back in a day too. I'm sure they'll do your diamond cut jobys (purposely spelt that wrong!!)

Mine was kerbed getting 'oot o the road' of some mentalist on a corner too - but I knackered a tyre wall too - so maybe you've got off lightly, all things considered.

Where did this happen - maybe we should set down a wee cross and a "RIP Soltice"

After the initial rage, you'll realise it could have been much worse and the wheel WILL fix.... if it were me I'd be tempted to leave it until Spring incase you kerb it on black ice.......

.... won't be keen on a meet in the immediate future then ...... :eusa-think:

You need some Tardis, that brings them off.

Mr Rizz, I feel your pain. I felt sick to the stomach when I did my wheel but mine was easier to repair than yours because I don't have fancy wheels, like you :eusa-whistle: I hope you get it sorted soon.

Donna - thank you for your post which was both helpful and filled with some humour...both of which I require right now!!

The Wheel Specialist, huh? Well hopefully that'll do exactly what it says on the tin!! I'm concerned that they may be difficult to fix because they are diamond cut and that's the part that's damaged. Grrrrrrrr!!!!

You're right, of course, it could have been much worse. I'm just so irritated as it needed never happen and I'll bet that the traffic he overtook caught up by the first set of traffic lights. Oh and crosses can be placed on the back roads from Banchory heading over towards Kemnay. (Flowers can be watered with my tears.)

Oh and as for the sticky bit...I KNOW what on earth was that stuck down with? Unicorn blood? It's truly mystical!!!

RCZ1 - thank you for your sympathetic and understanding response...fingers crossed they can be rectified!!

Have now emailed the folks at Dyce with a couple of images of the damage and asked for a ball park estimation for repair of they can do it...I wait with baited breath and considerable frustration... :(

I've trashed all of my silver ones- just seems to have happened all by itself.

Strange...that happened on the 18s on my last car...shortly after i was away (from my car) on a weekend stagger. I believe that my wife used a similar argument! ;)

All things considered it doesn't look too bad. I managed to kerb mine in a similar way and have managed to forget about it. I'll probably get it fixed but will wait a while in case I add to the collection of marks!

My Solstices had a few marks when I viewed my (2nd hand) RCZ which I asked the dealer to repair. I wasn't holding out much hope for the repair to be perfect so was pleasantly surprised when I saw the repaired wheels as they looked brand new. So fear not, they should be repairable.

Thanks Jassy!! As long as they can be done is the main thing. I am gradually coming to terms with it but it has ruined my day!!

Yup big...a grown man shouldn't be too proud to cry...my bottom lip was trembling but I'm not certain if that was upset, anger or a combination of the two!!!

Thank you for your post which has given me some heart and hope that they may live on!! I haven't had diamond cut alloys before so wasn't entirely sure the score! At least research and kind members have told me that it can be done!

Finally received a quote of £120+ VAT to have it repaired. The killer though is the fact that it would require being away for 7-10 days and this would be a stumbling block. Cheaper, or at least more practical, perhaps to source an alloy, fit that and send off the kerbed one for repair?

Kerbed alloy, impractical repair (and problem of no full sized spare or space saver perhaps coming to rear its unwelcome head again)...and a face lifted RCZ...*face plant number 4*.

I know...I feel really bad about it too. :( I have had words with her to assure her that the love is still very much there. It's not her fault after all.
