Calling into my tyre shop today, with a view to purchasing four winter tyres. Really would like to have got four wheels first to put them on. However, I believe my death would be imminent if I travelled too far down that route.

  oh dear Ron, I can imagine the headlines and the photos now ... just a wee pair of legs sticking out from underneath a bonny white RCZ.....

So you going to get tyres anyway?

Thinking I might have to chum my dad to come with me to the fitters (complete with a trailer carring 4 x tyres) ..... I can only get 2 19" tyres in the RCZ with the seats down and the C63 boot is EVEN WORSE!

Oh dear RON that wouldn't do at all!! Incidentally what would be the cause of death, collapsing tyre jacks or a rather unimpressed OH?

I still need to actually buy the winter tyres. However, I'll have to chum somebody up when the day to fit them rolls along as my wife's noddy car and "show boot" is unlikely to prove terribly helpful.

Ok the difference in price between the Falkens and the Continental Wintersports is now fractional (about 17 bucks a tyre). To this end, I wonder if I am as well going for the contis? Any suggestions? Has anyone used these? It's going to set me back almost 850 bucks now for these bad boys but the summer contis are utterly utterly useless in the lower temperatures and it's getting ridiculous trying to get grip on cold wet roads. I may neglect to tell the missus quite how much they cost...shhhhhhh!!!

Are you buying from mytyres? What does their tyre tests say?
Get yourself onto Quidco and save yourself 3% - and buy Jen a bunch o flowers with the savings!
I'm going to put mine on this weekend I think...if I can find someone to come with me to lug two tyres!

Well I went to quidco and in the end ordered them directly from Belmont who will fit them for ten bucks a pop. I'll visit a graveyard for Jen's flowers.

...is it contis that you've ordered from Belmont? Will they store your summers??

I'm currently involved in a considerable amount of grovelling and shying from exposing the cost of the tyres. Still...at least she'll be able to leave Bridge of Don over the festive period should the snow fall. A festive drive shall be the only gift I can afford to give her after all!! :(

"Wrong type of rubber"?! Porsche approved, Peugeot and Autocar recommended I'll have you know. I kinda wish I'd just bought a bloody battered old Landy Defender!!

Yup, they're coming directly from and to Belmont. I'm going to enquire about them storing the winter tyres and get a confirmed and written guarantee of future costs of changing and fitting the wheels. It's actually quite handy as I notice that one of the lighting caps has worked itself loose and has vanished. That needs replaced ASAP!! Hopefully they won't leave a bloody spanner knocking about as I discovered one (that's definitely not mine) when checking oil levels and adding washer fairly recently!

So Rizz, tyres arrived yet? When are you getting them fitted?

I Know this might sound simple :? but really its only the 2 front tyres that need to be changed over to a winter tread as they steer and pull the car. Buying 4 new tyres is a massive cost and of course a bit of a gamble with the weather,if it where me l would buy 2 for the front and see how much a difference they make :?: :?:
