It depends on how these 1000 miles have been driven. If only in city driving or for picking up the sunday coffee at a distance of 5 miles (means, engine never got warmed up) then I'd change the oil. But if driven properly on B roads with the engine all warmed up, I wouldn't. The oil will be fine.

Oil leak from head gasket? How? The engine would have to spit oil like kuwait oil fields during 1990 to make the engine oil wet. I assume they meant the valve cover gasket. When properly swapped and installed, it should fix the problem for another 60-70k miles.

I'd recommend to change it again. If you wait until it get dark and having metal shavings in it, it will be too late. Oil wears out, especially the additives which get "crushed" by the gearbox's cogs day by day. At the end it is so much cheaper to change it then to replace a gearbox.

The current version of the Volvo S60 with the T5 engine (250 ponnies). It is the version without speed limiter and with the old software. The newer versions are limited at 180 kmh and have that bug-infested Android Auto Operating System. That alone is the reason I would never buy another new Volvo.
