    Newbie looking for an R

This is a set of R brakes. The pistons are chrome plated mild steel. The plating fails, the mild steel corrodes and the chrome plating comes away from the mild steel. The pistons no longer move freely and eventually seize. Brake performance is affected when they begin to stick.

A white 65 plate from Cazoo has been added at the lower end of Albuck's budget. It looks a far better purchase than the smokey engine car. For 85,000 miles those seats looks very good. They look better than cars with <20,000 miles. It has a near full service history with most at main dealers...

I think Australia only got a handful of R, but their climate will help. We won't here too many issues from them. I don't think there are many R owners on this forum combined. The chrome coating appears to fail just though use. I think it breaks up through force leaving mild steel pistons...

The pistons are made of mild steel with a chrome coating. They corrode and the plating comes off. The pistons stick in the caliper. The pistons really need changed after the first set of brake pads. If you push them back in they will start sticking and brake performance will be badly affected...

You can't see corrosion on the pistons until they are exposed. The mild steel corrodes from inside and the chrome plating breaks up. They need replaced after the first set of pads. It is a widespread problem with Alcon brakes.

Brakes are wear and tear. I highlight them as they are unexpectedly really expensive. I do think Alcon should be forced to recall the brakes. They are not fit for purpose. You shouldn't have to rebuild or replace a caliper after a set of pads. Hardly anyone of any brand is going to fit new...

Very very few 9-11 year old cars are genuinely going to have a perfect interior, be free of dings and damage, or not have damage repairs. Most older cars, not just Rs, that owners think are top condition are not. Some people might be willing to pay good money for a top grade collectors car that...

There is currently 6 Rs for sale. All are less than £15,000. I know we want to protect the value of our cars, but £12,000 is a realistic price. It will not get a very low mileage car with an impeccable history, but £12,000 will get a good car especially if you buy private.

It could be anything that causes the engine to burn oil. Unless the problem has been fixed and the dealer offers a warranty then the car isn't worth considering. You could be facing huge bills soon into ownership.

That car has been around a lot. A 6 owner car with tacky mods isn't going to appeal to a lot of people. That plaque below the radio is offensive. It was on the car when it has been for sale before. I'm surprised the last owners haven't removed it unless it hides an issue underneath? The...

I don't think that is an unusual price for a timing chain replacement. Garages will look for 5 hours labour plus the cost of the parts.

The disparity between advertised prices and trade values has always been high. The gap is unusually high and buyers might not realise. It is something to take into account. Offers from the trade are miserable. The grey one on Autotrader at £12,999 with 39,000 miles looks a good one. It's...

The HPFP and timing chain is a potential issue on all the cars with variants of this engine. The HPFP isn't a big bill of you get it refurbished rather than buying a new pump. Another thing that I would point out is that when it comes to selling an R you will need to sell privately. Trade in...

The blue smoke warning would scare me off that car. I'd be definitely needing proof that something had been repaired to stop that. There was an oil leak earlier in the MOT history. The front brakes are the big one. Just about every R or 308 GTi that comes up for sale is needing the front brakes...

Fish Brothers have put their price up to £504 per disc. Pug1off do discs for £580. They also advertise the Tarox discs for £974. Tarox direct are £1240.

The front brakes are very expensive. Genuine discs from Peugeot Parts direct have gone up in price recently. They are over £1000. Pug1off do discs and bells for £580. The parts to rebuild the calipers are about £250 from them. The standard pistons corrode and seize within the caliper. They are...

Pink dust on the R engine

That cheaper 18,000 mile red car looks suspect. The lack of second exhaust is strange. I'm not sure what they've been doing with the boot floor. I think the heat shield might have been damaged in a crash and that was the cheap repair option.

Won't wrapping the turbo make it run even hotter? It doesn't look like a good idea to me.

    RCZ R for sale

It looks a nice car. There is plenty of threads on here discussing values and things that make the car desirable.
