    That's not so bad, cheers.

Is there no answer, do we just have to live with it?

Sounds like a sub-standard product to me, isn't there a mod, like stainless pistons, or alternative replacement callipers? Yes the white one does look ok.

Thanks for that. The smokey one had the callipers replaced in 2017, I've got copies of the history and receipts, which is why I was asking if it was a one off or a regular cost, would Renault have fitted the same callipers with the dodgy pistons or upgraded ones?

Is replacing the front callipers a one off problem, do you have to check what type of callipers were fitted if done by Peugeot?

That's why I was asking about the cost of sorting a smoking engine, surely you don't write a car off for it! Say if, the black one at under 10k had a lot of the other problems with brakes, fuel pump etc sorted, the cost of rebuilding the engine may be worth it, not forgetting the smoking engine...

It seemed they were the likely causes after reading a lot of the comments on here, and if all the other bits mentioned were good I would consider one with that problem, especially as it's likely I would strip it down and do the donkey work myself.

Regarding the blue smoke, is the cause likely to be valve guides or carbon build up? If so what kind of money would a specialist charge to refurb the head? Is there a known specialist in the London/Kent area?

Well I've learnt enough today to know not to rush into buying one, many thanks to all contributors. One thing that does puzzle me which I understand is common to all RCZs, is how replacing a timing chain can cost £800-1000?

Yes I was looking at the grey one and thinking it could well be a better bet, although it's even further away!

I was just talking about what to budget in for front brakes, timing chain and fuel pump if not recently done. Cheers, all this info is what I was looking for when I joined.

Thanks for more positives, yes after the feedback I think I'll lean towards a car with the HPFP, timing chain, discs and callipers all having been replaced at least at some point, unless it's at a price with these factored in, which is unlikely as it looks like that could easily run to 4k! Are...

Cheers Charlie, that's a bit more positive, I will only be using it as a leisure car, no commuting or work use. Aside from the brakes and the fuel pump the timing chain replacement at £800-1000 is also scary!

Yes I read the HDI is the best for an everyday car, that engine is bullet proof, but with the same ULEZ problem as my A3 Sport.

Cheers, I'm so glad I posted here today, I didn't realise the huge difference between the 200 and the R, it seems nearly everything is specialised and expensive, which is probably what has has kept the secondhand values lower than you would expect for this calibre of car! I don't do a lot of...

There may be enough on this thread already to turn me back towards a 200! :ROFLMAO:

Yes that doesn't sound good unless it was sorted, but as it was only last year he would have mentioned the work being done, and if the dealer got the MOT it could have been "missed" and still be there...
