Hi Guys,

My wife has just purchased an old rcz with a hdi motor. Its currently due for a cambelt change. Has anyone been down this road before? Is there any issues I need to be aware of? I have changed cambelts before (infact changed the 407's cambelt 2 weeks ago).

Hi.

I've just had my timing chain changed in the last month at 74000 miles as the chain stretched. I'm not sure if the hdi engine also has a chain as I have the 1.6 156 thp engine.

Cambelt on the diesels changed every 10 years or approx. 140.00 Klm depending on the owners discretion & service history of the car

I don’t believe there’s anything untoward when changing the belt and water pump in the HDI, I’m sure you’ll find it a breeze as some garages are charging around £350 it must be pretty straight forward.

OK, I better get on with this job over the next week or so (while I'm off work). Does anyone have the manual steps for the cambelt change? I did change the 407 RHR cambelt last year, but that looks far more spacious under the bonnet, so probably needs less removed. I guess I just keep unbolting stuff until I get enough access ? :)

Okay just to follow on I have done this change, the engine bay is tight, very tight and can be a right pain. I tried to remove the crankshaft bolt without fixing the fly wheel, videos show once it's broke the bolt comes out well mine didn't. I used a power bar and the belt jumped on the crankshaft sproket, long story short had to reset the timing with a 8mm drill in camshaft sprocket and 6mm in the flywheel (starter needs to be removed). Jam the flywheel (timing was out) and get the bolt out then reset timing. After this the worse part was trying to get the auxillary belt on, its so tight.

You need the timing pin kit, I wouldn't try it without this! I posted about it here.

it is straight forward, but gee's it was a bugger of a job to do the first time. Next time will take me half the time and be a fraction of the effort.

the local poogoe dealers wants $2200aud ( 1245 uk pounds). Obviously they are not changing it for me!
Sake! It’s a few hundred quid at a non dealer. If you have done them before I doubt it will be a problem for you. You know the drill
