hi,

I have a rcz gt 1.6 thp 156 with the dreaded engine light repair needed.

just plugged in a diagnostic tool and I am seeing:
p0016 Crankshaft Position - Camshaft Position Correlation (Bank 1 Sensor A)
p1336 Crank/camsensor ?
p0172 system too rich (bank1)
p0087 Fuel Rail/System Pressure Too Low

i have an slow oil leak directly under the engine.
i think the car is in Limp mode, can’t be sure as I bought the car this way . It doesnt feel fast.

i am assuming that the HPFP needs replacing to solve p0087. A common problem with thp engines. Perhaps this will solve p0172 as well.
i am reaaly hoping p1336 doesn’t mean a slack timing chain o_O

Any tips much appreciated

I think your right about the HP fuel pump and I’m afraid it does seem to point at the timing what does it sound like on cold start up?

perhaps it is just the chain tensioner ? could explain the oil leak too.

ok, perhaps I was wrong, car doesnt sound completely fine.
Engine light began flashing, smoke out of exhaust, and the a loud fan came on.
I now have an extra code:
p1340

😩

So 1340 I believe is cylinder 4 misfire which normally relates to HP fuel pump but could be a coil pack swap coils over from 4 to say 2 and see if the code alters a faulty coil pack could throw up all those codes but I think it’s the HP fuel pump

I have the fuel rail issues on a 200 GT went into local Peugeot dealer to enquire about the price of a fuel pressure monitor sensor & my mates in the parts section were all adamant its the pump on mine after saying they have just finished replacing ones on a 2018 308 GTi & a 2015 208 GTi & both had low mileage ! 👀😑

ok, so perhaps just the fuel pump? I hope so.
If the timing chain is a problem will it be obvious? the engine ticking over is relatively quiet on a cold start

Timing chain problems would potentially affect a lot of things Fuel/Air mixture ratios & the VVTI which would more than likely stop the engine firing up so if as you say the car is running OK but a little noisy then that is not a Timing chain issue Unless the tensioner is Knackered Bank1 can be the upstream Lambda sensor reading the fuel is rich ( fuel not being fully combusted) so its possibly too much fuel & not enough air in the mixture which might again be that the pump/fuel pressure is all adrift Cylinder misfires are usually related to Plugs & coil pack issues & the Prince engine is notorious for not liking worn plugs ( does it need new plugs?) maybe check your Air filter it sounds like you may have service part issues to deal with before going at other faults
I hope it is the pump as its a straight fix on the RCZs & their generically prone to fail which can throw up all sorts of wobbles & make the car have a rough idle or flat spot on acceleration as for the Fault codes when I was reading the code 0087 2nd time round I think the car threw up 4/5 ghost faults which may have come from the ECU system checks which I have encountered previously on another car which if I remember rightly may have been a Fiat anyway Good luck & get back on if your stuck 👌

In the process of removing the hpfp I’ve noticed the extent of the oil leak. Im pretty certain it is the valve cover gasket so I will replace it. Oil is everywhere. I noticed oil around the spark plugs, perhaps this is causing misfires/engine-light-codes?
im also considering switching out the tensioner as they are pretty cheap and it seems a simple job.
im just waiting on the hpfp. I sent it off to the ebayer who offers repairs for £140. He has fixed it and tells me the ’transfer fluid was on the low side’

ok so repaired HPFP is back on and error codes cleared. I start the car up and pretty much instantly get a P0013. There is a slight rattle to the engine.
Would you recommend the next port of call a replacement of the chain tensioner?

P0013 ? camshaft position sensor ? I doubt it although I could be wrong that the tensioner is throwing this fault unless like mine it is as stiff as a corpse which threw up a bit of Camshaft cohesion ( Timing fault code) This code according to the Peugeot OBD engine codes is relating to Camshaft position sensor & has a list of possibles as follows Dirty Oil/Low engine Oil level /Faulty Exhaust cam position solenoid actuator?electrical circuit Actuator solenoid harness circuit shorted or open/poor electrical connection/Faulty Engine control module Symptoms are Engine light or service warning light ?
The solenoid controls the amount of engine oil flow to a CMP actuator The CMP actuator can change the camshaft angle a maximum of 25 degrees The CMP module is controlled by the ECM which may or may not possibly explain why your getting the P0013 code & slight rattle Rattle Try an Oil change just to see if the rattle disappears & the Actuator reverts to normal operation when started from cold if it does not then you may need to investigate the Electrical aspects of the fault

no service warning light, car tells me oil level is correct when I start it up. There is a major oil leak from the rocker gasket which has covered the engine bay, I will have a good at cleaning that up and the sensor itself. I have all I need here to do a oil and oil filter change so I will try that too.
Thanks!

Engine sounds ok which makes me think it is not a chain issue... no death rattle just normal thp sounds
all I can think is that the oil leak has damaged the crankshaft sensor.
think I noticed the engine self revving a little when left idle. Its not behaving consistently. Could be an Unrelated air leak.
I guess odd engine behaviour would be expected if the crankshaft sensor is knackered. I’m too worried that it might break down to drive it to a garage.
i will change the rocker gasket, and oil and filter, and perhaps take a look at the sensor while I am under the car.

P0016 ? Your engine sounds like it is "hunting for the correct timing parameter

Oil OK but you have a major leak so I assume you did a manual check on the stick?
" which could mean that the timing is trying to adjust the firing/ running sequences to cope with the Faults your explaining you need to scan it to see if the you have no cylinder misfires & bank 1& 2 are in coordination You may be right the crank sensor is faulty but it may be that another issue is causing the fault ?

Yep stick shows oil between the markers after a wipe and dip.
I also replaced the air filter.
I have cleared the codes turned the engine on, reversed and forward two or three times. I have done these sequence multiple times. the Engine Light comes on as soon as I put in gear. Just the same code twice.
P0016 $07e8Pd
P0016 $07e8

Just waiting on the gasket maker before I change that out. I might replace the chain tensioner while I am at it.

p.s. steering is heavy. I checked the fluid and it is very low, barely shows anything on the dipstick. will be filling this up too shortly.

Right if the POO16 is persisting I have double checked & it comes as Crankshaft position-Crankshaft position correlation Bank1 Sensor A which could mean as you pointed out the Crank sensor ? which is possibly signalling the ECU to readjust the timing hence the engine light ? I would suspect that the engine has been running on a low oil level for some time or it needed changing more often one trick with the Prince engine is never trust the dash Oil level OK message as this will show normal when the level could be or is hovering around the Mid or low stick mark plus these engines should always have at least 3.50 to 4 ltrs in the sump at all times to operate at their max efficiency & to save the wear on the chain & tensioner !
Your going about it the correct way in tackling the leak & changing the cam sensor & the tensioner but give it a full Oil/filter change & not just top it up after you have done all the hard work of rectifying the problem if is still losing Oil the recommendation is don't keep topping up drop the Oil out & add new then check for usage over a certain Mileage or time period by doing so you find out if it burning too much Oil
Let us all know how you get on or if your stuck on anything 👍
