yet another aftermarket head unit question

I see 1001 different Ebay/Ali Express double DIN headunits for the RCZ and they look good but...

When I went down this route on my last car, the FM reception was crap. Basically if I wasn't parked at the front door of the radio station the reception faded to nothing.

Is any unit which is better than another, or anything to look for in the specs which might indicate the radio part of it might actually be useful?

A radio station's transmitting antenna is usually not located in its studios, but somewhere separate from the urban area where it covers a larger area.

Perhaps your car has a faulty antenna, a module hidden by the headliner, or perhaps the cable has become disconnected in the rear of the head unit.

I have the xtron unit fitted in my 308cc very similar car to my RCZ, and also found fm radio reception poor.
when I did a bit of digging to see why, I found that the signal booster aerial mounted in the boot lid (as no external aerial fitted) was not getting a power supply. Wee bit of digging and the head unit patch lead to the original radio plug of the car loom was not wired to put power to the booster When the radio was on.

On my RCZ with NG4 the reception is good and it doesn't usually lose the signal.
