So I guess some minis are German too…..

The launch of the Peugeot RCZ will mark the start of a dynamic new chapter in the history of Peugeot. ………Due to the special nature of the vehicle, it will be built by Magna Steyr in Austria in a production centre that specialises in exclusive vehicles built in small volumes.

WHERE ARE MINIS BUILT? MINI's manufacturing home is in Oxford, England, on the same site where cars have been produced for over 100 years. In addition to Plant Oxford, some MINI vehicles are assembled at the VDL NedCar plant in the city of Born in the Netherlands, and at the Magna Steyr facility in Graz, Austria.

Plasmas comments are not based upon any scientific publications, just personal opinion and in my view should be ignored…it is well documented that Peugeot now recommend 0W30 to its original spec of 5W30….if you read the science behind an oils viscosity you would getting a better idea of why they changed it….
Totally agree, to say Peugeot changed the recommended spec because they want to move loads of cheap 0W-30 is fanciful and I’ve found the Total ineo first to be more expensive than the 5W-30 ineo.

Hi MJZ
Shocking that you are having to do this on a 20k mile 2014 car. Did you change just the tensioner or the guides/ chain as well? I fitted type 3 as shown on your image, direct from BMW so I'm pretty certain it is the latest design. It was about 3mm longer than the one I took out. The engine does not now rattle at cold startup but still rattles when driving until the engine is warm.
The myth that these later cars have better internals needs to be well and truly discredited.
Sorry non…didn’t see this…yeah I was a little surprised and quite shocked when the car began making the death rattle…i thought as you…what the hell, it’s only done 20,000 miles and that was only a few weeks after buying it. But then you get people telling you it’s the age as well to be considered. I think it’s a serious design fault…my car is 2014, later than the earlier tension problems, where they were supposed to have had further development to fix the problem. I agree…I doubt the problem will ever be fixed, they will always fail…the trick is to keep on top of it with regular oil and filter changes. I don’t use my car that much, but I’ll be changing the oil and filter annually with 0W30. I only changed the tensioner, in the hope that I caught it well before the chain could damage any plastic. I probably only started it a half dozen times with the death rattle and it stopped within 15/20 seconds. People said I should change the chain and guides too. Even my Peugeot garage wouldn’t change the tensioner alone. Of course I couldn’t understand this…surely the chain is not at fault here, it should last longer than 20,000 miles regardless of its age. So I changed only the tensioner. That was 6 months ago and I’ve not had any death rattle and the engine is quiet from start up….unlike your own….it shouldn’t be rattling at all….you may be scrutinising it a little too closely, but if you can still hear a rattle whilst driving then I’d say it wasn’t fixed….im listening to my engine with the hood up, there’s no noise from the timing chain side but all engines make a noise, just be sure it’s not coming from the timing chain side. If a garage changed your tensioner, I would ask them to check it out. Yep, I think the problem certainly exists on all RCZs, no matter what year…
