I have also now got a copy of the manual from emanuals
Not entirely sure what the legality of this really is, can't help but feel they're not working entirely within the law here, as it's clearly just backup software...running on an un-licensed copy of xp. That said, xp is now no longer supported by Microsoft and as such also not policed; i have a couple of old laptops at work that run xp, had to call with a licencing problem a couple of weeks ago and their first fix was just to give me new licence keys without any checking that I actually own one already. Heh. Bottom line, if you want it, go for it, really not going to be a problem.
Some notes about using this system:
1 - The download is 12.1Gb so be prepared for an overnight download. I have a decent 5-10Mbps and it still took hours
2 - You need a copy of VMWare Player to run it. This is free and easy to install but is worth taking a moment to set up properly.
3 - There is a settings menu for the virtual machine you will be running, this will default to very little RAM allocation and only a single core of the processor, increasing these will improve speed dramatically.
4 - Change the RAM up to about 4Gb (assuming you have more than 4Gb generally in your system, I wouldn't recommend allocating more than 50% of your total RAM for stability reasons), also no point going over 4Gb as its a 32Bit copy of XP so can't handle more than 3.5Gb anyway.
5 - If you have a 4 core processor then I'd give the VM a second core to play with too.
6 - I also disabled networking too, just to avoid any licencing/virusy issues, not essential but no harm.
Generally it seems pretty thorough, although no info as far as I can tell on the servicing details, think this was also mentioned earlier. Will find out more as I use it and keep this page updated with any other helpful info
