Hi All,

Whats the best way / thing to use when cleaning windows especially on the inside. Young Nephew in the back of car the other day and sticky finger prints all over window. There seems to be specialist product for all surfaces so thought i'd ask the experts what to use.

Many thanks Grant

Hi Grant

I use Megs class gleaner which can be bought from Halfords.
There are quite literally loads of different glass cleaners on the market but this one will do the job nicely.

Just as an aside, I've bought a new product to go on the outside of the windows, especially the windscreen and back window. Its a similar product to Rain x in that the rain literally runs off the glass but even at low speeds, even stood still. The really good thing is that it lasts two years or 20 k miles. I will be putting it on the husband's car this weekend. It will go on mine when I get it back.

Okay, okay - I didn't realise that I hadn't mentioned the name of it.

Its made by Gtechniq - and called G1 :!:

You can also use G4 - which is a glass polish, which you use first before the G1. It does say on the website that G4 shouldn't be used on new car glass but I enquired about this and its only because the new car glass shouldn't been full of contaminants - so you can use it if you wish - it won't do any harm.

G4

Or you can get a kit comprising of both of these -

There are in very small bottles, but you don't use a lot and you get some little pads to apply it (they look like make up remover pads), You apply 3 layers of the G1 to the windscreen (and the back window, which I will be doing) and 1 layer to the other windows. You apply the first layer, leave for 10 minutes, then apply the next layer (don't buff off), leave 10 minutes, then apply a third - leave for 15 minutes, then buff it all off with a lint free cloth.

They also have some other great products on that website too. I've bought the sealant C2 and QD spray to try out - that apparently lasts for 8 months so should see the RCZ through the winter. You can still put wax on top if you wish.

Thanks, RCZ1, you're an absolute mine of information. As someone else said, you should be on speed-dial for detailing matters :D

Used the Gtechniq G1 today on the husband's car - put 3 layers on the windscreen, 1 on all other glass.
Can't wait for it to rain now to see how well it works

Don't do what I did though and knock over the little bottle (25ml), so only had half a bottle left :x

Thanks for the replies. Got the Megs Glass Cleaner, worked well thanks.

I have never been into cleaning cars and still don't get enthused about it so taking my baby to a proffesional detailers in the morning to have a look at it and give me a quote for (New Car Protection/Sealant) treatment then monthly/quaterly washes/treatments etc.
Really lazy I just want to drive it not clean it.

There's nothing wrong with that Grant. It will be in good hands with the professional detailer and will be well protected and looked after.
Its not "Magic" detailers is it, out of interest?

Thanks for the tip. Have you used it before? I can't really believe it can last that long so would love to hear how you get on. I've still got my Permaclear stuff and it lasts ages so am fine for now.

I'll let you know how I get on Brooktop and what the durability is like. I may do a monthly update.

Applied to my husband's car at the weekend - waiting for it to rain now to see how it works.
When I get the RCZ back, I will apply it on there too. My husband does more miles per annum then I do, so his should be a good stick to measure it by !

Just a little update. G1 applied to husband's Discovery 4 on Saturday. All windows thoroughly cleaned and polished before G1 applied. 3 layers on windscreen, one on all the others.

It rained yesterday coming home from work (I'm driving his whilst mine is away !). On approaching the car, I noticed that the water was both running off the windscreen and also beading very tightly.
Once I started to drive off, the water was running off very well, at low speed - approaching 30 mph. Upwards of 30 mph it was fantastic.

Bear in mind that the windscreen on a Disco 4 is not steeply raked, its very upright, which makes it even more impressive !

First impressions are very, very good !
