Which car would you buy if the RCZ did not exist?

Got thinking - we have a "What car are you trading up or down from" so wondered if the RCZ didn't exist and was just a figment of our imagination, Which car would you buy?

It has to be something that you can realistically afford and in a similar price range - maybe up to 30K.

This will be an interesting read.

At the moment, I'm struggling to answer my own question - I'll put my thinking cap on :)

The only other car I have been so enthuiastic about was the Bugatti Veyron but I like my RCZ better! BTW I haven't taken the Veyron for a test drive - might be pants for all I know...........

I'd have gone for a new Ford Kuga with a panoramic glass roof for normal day and bad weather use plus a second hand Porsche Boxster for sunny days and a bit of posing!

Have ended up buying the RCZ as main car with additional purchase of a cheap, very comfortable, all leather interior 52 plate 2.0 Ford Maverick 4x4.

I'd been more than happy with my Hyundai coupe until the dealers sowed the seed of discontent by telling me there were two new models possibly arriving in the UK next year. I started researching them and the car experts threw up some comparisons and up popped a certain collection of letters starting with R and ending with Z :eusa-think:  so off I went to give it a once over and the rest's history.

PS :eusa-shhh: , I haven't told my Hyundai dealers yet :eusa-whistle:

BMW 3 series convertible, however as soon as I saw the RCZ I totally changed my mind. However reading my entries on diesel particle filter and the consequential 2 weeks in the dealership and the fact I still have not got it back, I am near on wishing I had gone with the beamer.

Was looking at a diesel A5 quattro, but sat in a new one in the showroom and didn't like the interior, it felt austere and a little claustrphobic. Both my wife and I immediately ruled out the TT, didn't even fancy sitting in one.

Would have gone for an Animal or a Defender.

Animal for comfort / toys. Defender to re-awaken some old job nostalgia - clearly not for the toys ??!!

Was getting a bit bored with cars and the mountains all around me were begging to be explored further afoot than just walking.

RCZ not quite the car I thought, although not dis-pleased with it.
Not sure I'll keep it for three years though before I change it.

See how the Peugeot build quality wears up. First ever Peugeot, so hoping the reputation is good.

Hmmm - good one.

I gave this some serious thought a few weeks ago. When discussing my clutch issue with my dealer I gave some thought to handing back my RCZ (reluctantly) and getting something else.

I'd considered (in no particular order):
- second hand TT (not keen on Audi sales experience but at least I could get my son in the back)
- second hand Z4 (but where to put my son?)
- second hand boxter (ditto z4)
- Honda crz (cramped and expensive)
- renault megane coupe (cheap feel to the interior)

In short, I'd have been torn between (probably) the z4 and a TT (which I didn't want but at least all 3 of us could use)

who'd have thought I'd have so little choice with £25k to spend!!!

Had an Alfa Brera 3.2S Pro-Drive blar blar blar before me RCZ,, the Alfa was taken from me suddenly one wet day when I went through a puddle that got slurped up into the engine and snapped a con rod ouch :( , £14K for a new engine plus £4k to have it fitted, computer says NO so did the insurance man, so he wrote it off. Actually talking of which, had a bloke call me yesterday with a west country accent wanting the spare key as he now has it and was thinking of re-building it for his wife, sounds a good swop to me :D

I like cars that can make a statement, looked at the Renault Meg thing which was quite nice in yellow but a bit chavy then happened across the RCZ which don't look much on paper, so went and saw one in the flesh, (actually the one I bought) our eyes met, I lusted her, she me, we touched and the rest is history  .... yup I got arrested for being some weido in a Peugeot showroom and spent the night in jail

My girl puts out about 200horses and the only mod I would make would be to put a flowed exhaust on her not so much for power but to give her a bit more growl, she does however make a lovely note from about 5K revs onwards as already tabled on this forum.

Gosh I want to go out for a drive now, anyone fancy a trip to Hastings to get fish and chips? :p

Count me in - I love fish and chips :D

I do like the Alfa Brera but I have always been put off buying an Alfa for some reason. I know they are stories about reliability, bits falling off, etc but I usually tend not to take any notice as you get good and bad with everything. Probably the big thing that has put me off is the big dip in residual values.

Hey K you are so my type of women, if it don't work out with the current hubby give me a call  plus....what you doin on the computer when you should be cleaning your steed of need?

Think Alfa employed a German bloke a few years ago to look after the Q.A bit, didn't have too much go silly on her, the drivers door decided not to lock one day which was a pain, also keep clear of puddles, mind you it does sort the problem of residual value :eusa-whistle:

ciao cupcake

Do they put something funny in the water in Wiltshire - what with Gemini and what with you - I can't understand what you say half the time

If that means what I think it means - I'm still without Pearl  - should have her back early next week

Yes they do doctor the water in Wiltshire that's why Gemini's hubby makes her drink wine (sensible to me) But can't blame that as I'm in Kent...o well no hope is there

Silly me, forgot Pearl is still away  . Hope the weather picks up for her return and you can get some nice driving (and cleaning) done.

Well I would have traded my Merc E-Class in for a newly new S-Class (could'nt afford a brand new one ), but liked the look of the RCZ Concept car as a complete change, back in Jan this year in a car mag! Once my wife saw one on the road in Sep & came home ecstatically enthuastic, I went to look at one in a dealership &, end of story really!
Obviously, the RCZ's not pratical for carrying 3/4 passengers, so I'm keeping my E-Class. I had it built for me from new so know it's history & we've looked after it, so we're going to polish it up & only using it when we need the extra seats. I'm very satisfied with my decision, & in fact am more excited about my RCZ than about any car I have 'ever' bought, partly because there are thousands of E-Class's, Mondeo's, Beemer's etc on the road, but not this little head turner!!!
My only worry (ish) is will it fit in the garage along with the Merc & a 6' pond filter??????? :eusa-think: Ummm, do I feel a garage extention on the cards next year? Bang goes any holiday plans!!!! :helpme:

Same here. We're thinking of a garage extension or even maybe total relocation of the garage to the bottom of the garden, which could become a triple garage !
