Wrong diameter, so your speedo will report wrong results and therefore they will most probably be not allowed in your country.

The difference is just below 3mph less on the above tyre. A lot of cars are out by that much anyway. :)

Your other issue with putting on the wrong sized tyre is that the mileage counter will be out. Not by much at first but it could mount up considerably over time.

You need bigger tyres for that to be beneficial ;)

They would fit your wheel, but they will have 3.58% less of a diameter, so your speedo will be inaccurate.

245s would be better, but they would still be out by 2.53%

I tend to always look at Waze or my Tom Tom for a speedo, seems more accurate.
Don't really use the in built sat nav, it's pretty poor!

I'm going 245 in April when I put the standard 19" back on. I'm on winter tyres on 18" at the moment.

Would I be correct in thinking that 245's would improve the ride quality slightly? The roads round here are horrendous, and it wasn't something I figured in when buying the car, but on the 19" Sol's with original 240's it can be a bit bone jarring!

I think I could live with the slight speedo discrepancy, it doesn't really equate to much when your already doing 50 mph over the limit

Well manufacturers deliberately make their speedos read a little cautiously across their cars but i suspect that 50mph over the speed limit might be a little ambitious!

Simply speaking, changing from 40 series to 35 series means basically that you have less sidewall. Benefits - less sidewall movement for less body movement on the tyres, better for cornering. Disadvantages - closer to the road which equates usually in more noise transferred into the car, and you will feel more bumps in the road.

Going wider and staying with 40 series will give you more sidewall and reducing noise and feel.

235/40/19

235 = tyre width (not tread width)
40 = % of tread width is sidewall
19 = tyre inner diameter

Overall tyre diameters differ based upon changing the width and sidewall %. You can find some wider or taller tyres that have close to what you have now without it affecting your speedo much at all. For example:

235/40/19 = 26.4" diameter and 787 RPM's (Revolutions Per Mile)
245/35/20 = 26.7" diameter and 777 RPM's

Note: different tyre manufactures may have different results for diameters etc., the results I have provided are for the MPSS's. Tread depth will also apply. The MPSS's are a High Performance Summer tyre with a 10/32" tread depth. The same size but All-Season model will have a larger diameter because tread depth is greater. Also you may find the same tyre size within the same manufacturer and model of tyre and yet they may have two versions. For example the 245/35/20 MPSS has a version with 9.4" tread width (found on Ferrari's) and another version with 8.5" tread width. The 8.5" means the tyre curves in more at the edge allowing for fitting them into tighter areas.

Re: What about 235/35x19 tyres - anybody fitted them as alte

Hi, I am running. 235 35 19 on the front at the moment, only reason is because I got these new tyres at a price I could not turn down.

No problems but would prefer the 40,s just because they are what should be on and fill the arch a little better.

Hope that helps :helpme:
