After coming to the conclusion my unit might not be totally borked, but spares will be hard to come by. I am looking for a sensibly priced replacement.

Thanks, that did actually cross my mind. I'll have a search on the forum. I just wouldn't like to end up with something that's slow and clunky, that would annoy me more than my current "nav-less" NG4
