USB shuffle?

I suspect I'm being a bit thick here, but how do you get the stereo to shuffle between all songs on a USB stick? I have the standard stereo. Cheers!

I don't think you can! There is a button on the stereo called "list" and if you press that it lists all your albums. I don't believe there is a shuffle option :eusa-think:

You can do it - it's called 'Random Play'. Fiddle about with the Menu / OK / List buttons while the stereo is on to access the features on the dashboard display and activate/deactivate it from there (I forget how exactly but it's not difficult when you're sat in the car doing it).

I thought it was not possible to shuffle the whole usb device if it has sub-folders.
What I usually do:
I make a playlist with ALL tracks in ex Winamp, and the shuffle the entire playlist. (Or in Winamp you can also "randomize" the playlist.)

You're right. You will need to have all tracks in one folder to random play them all.

I suspected that might be the case, how annoying! Oh well, I'll just have to put them all in one folder. Not sure if the car will like 1600 odd songs in 1 folder? We'll see :D thanks for the replies.

If you make a playlist *.m3u in ex winamp of your usb drive and save it on the drive you don't have to put all files in 1 folder.

I keep all my folders of different albums and place a all_track.m3u playlist in the root of my usb drive. This way I can shuffle all tracks. B)

I'm probably being thick (again) but can't seem to work out how to do this :s I created the file but it doesn't come up in the car. Possibly because I'm using a MacBook?

I discovered a much easier way to do this earlier. While listening to music from your USB stick on your stereo simply press the 'OK' button to activate/deactivate random play. It then plays random tracks from all the different folders on the memory stick - nice!

Glad you mentioned this as I was about to buy a bigger USB stick so that I could put everything ìn 1 folder to shuffle! Thought there must be some way of doing it. Cheers

Happy to help. I thought it was a pretty handy feature and the total "What song is coming up next?" randomness makes for some very eclectic playlists! :)

So, now that I'm back in the country I've given this a go and it still only shuffles songs within the folder :? am I doing something wrong?!

Works perfectly for me so that is very curious... Not sure what to suggest now.

Perhaps check with your dealer to see if there's a firmware update for the audio software?

Menu > Audio features > Random

Shuffles all tracks on the USB stick, irrespective of folders. There is however a limit to the number of tracks, something like 635, more tracks can be on the disk, but are ignored.

I never managed to create an m3u list that worked. I tried on my iMac, and on a Windows NetBook. None worked.

If, like my Wife, you stop the car regularly (she is a District Nurse) you'll find that the 'random' isn't very random. It can be rather repetitive.

The USB (and iPod) functionality of the stereo does let it down rather. Shame as it sounds very good with the JBL pack...
