usb doesnt pick up itunes files, only mp3 files?

Hi guys,
My rcz which has just a standard headunit with bluetooth, and usb in the arm reat. I cant play itune format files only mp3.
Wouldn't mind so much but i cant get a free convertor that lets me play more 50% of the track.
Any help would be appreciated

do you have an iphone? if you do then you can simply stream the music via bluetooth. if you have an ipod then the aux cable should allow you to play music from itunes.

ah, i've just noticed are you trying to play itunes files that are stored on a usb stick?

No ipod or iPhone, i have used itunes for years and have my music on there, i use usb

You're right, it will only play MP3 files from the USB. iTunes files are encoded as .m4a (MPEG-4 Audio) so will not read. Annoying but that's Apple for you I'm afraid. :evil:

Purchasing digital music is a total con in general anyway since you don't get the CD, case or booklet but people happily pay the same amount for it just for the sake of convenience. Much better to buy the CD and rip it into MP3 yourself with Windows Media Player or just download the MP3 versions for free off the net. :thumbup:

I had Nero 6 for the pc (cd writing software) I also had a program called Nero wave which I could take any file playable on the pc and convert it to another format eg wma to mp3 etc.
Still got programs but will run on win xp

can you not purchase an ipod and upload all the itunes files onto it and then plug it into the car?

Open iTunes Preferences. ...
Click the General button, then click the Importing Settings… button in the lower section of the window.
From the "Import Using" pop-up menu, choose the encoding format that you want to convert the song to, (in this case, MP3) then click OK to save the settings.

Any files you save to iTunes will be in the MP3 format & will play when loaded onto USB stick in your Z

You can do it in iTunes but it's a massive pain. Apple don't want you to do that so that's why they make it so difficult. You can just plug in the iPod using the AUX cable and access it through the stereo same as you do with the USB. Might be easiest for you to do this if you have a lot of iTunes music. Obviously the downside is a USB stick does not need charging but the iPod does. :thumbup:

After doing the above to ensure all new files are saved as MP3 files,

Select the song(s) in iTunes, right click > Create MP3 version.
Note that this will create a new mp3 file. The original will remain unchanged.

When converting from a compressed to uncompressed file format (for example, from MP3 to AIFF) you shouldn't notice any reduction in sound quality. However, when converting between compressed formats (for example MP3 and AAC), you may notice a reduction in the sound quality. For the best results, if you want your music encoded in a different file format, you should import the music again from the original source using the new encoding format.

Older purchased songs are encoded using a Protected AAC format that prevents them from being converted.
