I travelled down to get the car in Monday and did the deal , did all the paperwork and drive home, on getting home I realise I dont have the service book....the advert for the car clearly states ..

Two keys included and all.manuals, outstanding service history with 3 x stamps in the book and a pile of supporting invoices ....

I've spoken to them and basically they can't find the service book ,so I have no history of the car between 2011 and 2016, the manager has spoken to me this morning and said he will try to get history off peugeot but if it wasnt done at peugeot he's knackered..
He was very rude and told me he won't be replacing the second key cos I signed for one , I asked why the advert says it's done 40k when it's really done 42 and he said in the advert they have to round up or down which i find hard to believe especially on eBay and gum tree...when I told him I would he bringing the car back I was told " you're welcome to try "

So basically the ad said , 40k, two keys and stamped service history , I have 1 key , no history till 2016 and 2k extra..

Don't get me wrong I love the car but where do I stand

Thanks all

I'm no expert, but my two pence would be that there's nothing wrong with the car itself, and these things are the sort of things that you should check while there. I know sometimes in the heat of the moment, its easy to forget. I have only heard about people rejecting cars where there have been no end of mechanical issues, not admin related.

Best advice would be to call citzens advice as they will know what to do.

Good luck, and I hope you get the outcome you seek.

Yeah thought I stood a chance with this bit ..

"meet any description given to you when you were buying it (whether in the ad or in discussions prior to sale"

First question how did you pay?

You should at least get some money back if you keep the car.

If it was debit/credit card ask them to recover the payment as it's not as described.

If it was bank transfer again see if the can recover the payment stating possibly fraud and the above, possibly same with bank loan.

They will become more helpful if they don't have the money!

Wouldn't it be better just to get over this situation? Extra 2k miles is minor issue and i'm pretty sure they did that just to round numbers. I rarely see exact mileage on adverts. Missing second key is also no big deal, you can get one from peugeot dealer for around 100 eur. Full service history would be great to have but is it worth to reject the car because of missing history? I took me 6 months to find RCZ that i wanted so those things definitely wouldn't be deal breakers for me :)

On the other hand, you should get what you pay for. If those guys have bad attitude then you should check reviews online, maybe they have bad reputation and it is worth rejecting to avoid any issues in the future :eusa-think:

it might be 100 euro to buy a key but then you have the cost of programming it to the car which Peugeot will charge another 100 to 150 euros.

I bought 2 keys for another Peugeot and dealership wanted £250 + vat inc keys and programming.

I don’t know what you paid for the car but it’s obviously going to devalue it slightly having no history. At the very least you need some money back as compensation.
Good luck hope you get it sorted
PS. It’s so easy to forget things when you go and buy a Z it’s love at first sight and everything else pails into insignificance!

I've had a word with trading standards and they don't think it's a problem returning it , need to send a letter recorded delivery give them 7 days to respond etc then if no joy it's court job, he hasn't even had the courtesy to ring me back to see if he's had any luck at peugeot.....reading the reviews online it's not a good read with people having no luck with them, I've just tried peugeot myself but had no luck tracing history which is probably why he hasn't ring back .....

I think the main issue here is where you would stand ongoing if you did keep the car. I don’t know if you got any warranty, but I reckon it’s probably only worth hanging in the toilet if you did, judging by your experience with them so far.

Write the letter, contact your payment company, get the car back to them ASAP & learn from the experience.

Btw, post the company name on here so we can all avoid them in the future. :eusa-think:

Just thought have you anything with the previous owners details on maybe you could trace them to find out if there were any history with the car and if so where the Serviceing took place so you could trace it that way? :eusa-think:
If you love the car it might be worth hanging onto if it’s the one for you had you been searching long?

No not at the moment but I have been speaking to the supplying dealer, they have gibe me some info, i just cant believe my dealers attitude and feel like I need to do something, even the key thing , "you've signed for one key so we won't be supplying another.".....i signed for what I received not for what was in the ad , the ad says two keys and thats what i should get , ok maybe i should have checked while i was there but i didnt think I had to double check the ad while there to make sure they were telling the truth !!!!what a shocking attitude to a new customer that only bought the car two days ago...

Purchased item not as described.

There must be something in the trade description act that says if not fit for purpose or not as described you should be able to return it and get a full refund.

Somebody who knows the Act, can you shed a bit more light?

If I were you I'd get a copy of the ad before they can alter it, even save a copy of the html file to a cloud storage.

Yeah I've took photos of the ad which is still on ebay and their website, I think I'm well within my rights to return but not 100 % on how to actually do the deed , I've drafted a letter which I will send but if I get no reply to that I'm not sure it's a turn up with the car job, I mean if I drive the 160 miles to their showroom what do I do when I get there and they refuse to talk...they were meant to ring me back yesterday after they had tried to trace the history but I never got a call, I rang again this morning and was told I'd get a call back and again nothing...

I'm not after much I just want a key and some compensation for the lost history, and although I like the car I'm quite happy to take it back and find another ...

Drive down there, block the entrance to the place and I'm sure they'll be out to talk to you in no time! ;)
