*Update* Better Sound...Replaced with parrot asteroid smart

Hi All,

I got my RCZ two months ago and although i'm happy with the car, i am slightly disappointed with the sound system.
I am looking to add a sub-woofer, amp and replace the speakers, but would like to find out if there are any good recommendations out there? Sub/amp/speakers choices and also suggestions on where i could get it fitted.
I live in Kent and normally drive into London so any where around London or Kent is fine.

Budget is £500 (excluding labour charges)

Many thanks,
Tboggie

Re: Better Sound...

Update:

I decided to use an existing sub and amp I had in my previous car. I also changed the headunit to an android powered system - Parrot ASTEROID Smart. Result =

Sound quality is so much better and i was able to install some of my fav android apps.
Parrot ASTEROID Smart comes with a sat nav (iGO) which works offline, similar to tomtom. However, i'm using my car wifi device to stay connected to the internet so i could use apps like google maps, youtube, tunein, rocket player etc.

Note: Most of these apps are not available in the ASTEROID market place, but a few google searches would show you how to install .apk files.

Here are a few pics:

Lastly, i bought the car kits so all the Parking sensors, steering control etc still works fine.

Thanks,
T

That looks great!
I am about to do something similar to my rcz :) Is that thing able to play video on the unit screen?
Also, is there special cable for the rcz to get the remote control (steering wheel) and parking sensor?

Yes, tried playing some sample video files and it worked. I'm still looking to test more formats..
Regarding the special cable, yes i had to pay for some cables and the mounting kit.
I'll contact the store to find out if there was a specific cable for the steering control & parking sensor and I'll keep you updated.

looks very good. what is the device plugged into the cigarette lighter? Also, are you still able to use the steering column to skip between audio devices as well as skip through tracks/playlists etc?

I think that's a mobile internet hotspot thingy.

That's nice. For me was just the simply changing the speakers and the result was great, in my former RCZ. I had the NG4. i was happy with the standard speakers, but when changed to Alpine, specially the 6x9, the gain in bass was great, another world. When preparing the car for sale, removed the speakers and was quite disappointed, as I was so used to the Alpines. But then, the limitation was if I intended to use a sub or even any amplifier to push the speakers to full performance. Using the NG4 would be a complicated thing and possibly, if possible, quite expensive. I would go down the same way, replacing the head unit, if it was the case.

Thanks. It's wifi dongle from ee http://shop.ee.co.uk/dongles/pay-monthl ... ee/details.
Also, yes i can skip between audio devices as well as skip through tracks/playlists. This works when playing via the default music player. However, when playing music via spotify, i can control the volume via the steering control but cannot skip tracks.

So i tested some more audio and video files.

avi with mp3 audio - video and audio file worked fine. Tested with VLC and MX player
mp4 with aac audio - video and audio file worked fine. Tested with VLC and MX player
mkv with ac3 audio - video worked but no audio. Tested with VLC and MX player. I'll have to convert the audio to aac or mp3 and test again.
Flac audio - default music player and rocket player - worked fine.

Well not really as i deviated from my original plan.
Instead, I used a sub and amp i already had and i decided not to replace the speakers.
The head unit was replaced and sub/amp fitted, a few cables and kits also purchased. In total, pushed the original budget over by £200
