oh well with all the trouble i have had with my engine that is the least of my problems now,
on way home from work a nice 4x4 decided to break stop and then suddenly reverse because he missed his turning  not thinking to look behind him he ploughed into the front of me, my car is now a little shorter than it was, luckily I have a dash cam and footage to prove he hit me, best 40 pound i spent
just waiting for a hire car now and insurance to collect my car

Sorry to see that, but glad you had a dash cam fitted, I think you would have been struggling to prove fault without it.

I recently fitted an a118c to mine, cracking little tool.

Yes I am glad I had one as you say it would have been difficult to prove other wise. Insurance company said it was good job I had one makes things easier :)

Any advice on the best dash cams and what sort of price they are ?

Also, are they difficult to fit and do they look messy with trailing cables etc ?

Tianorth did a great thread about his installation, but his cameras were considerably more expensive than the A118 's.
