For me too down to symmetry.I had the quads but liked the R's better so had them fitted.

Its all about symmetry :)

I appreciate what you are saying, but two are fake. One either side, real exits is less, less is more.

Oh I see what you mean now.
I have one pipe from the manifold, but after the backbox 4 exits.

So, why not a hidden one like a lot of cars these days?

Its like little children wanting trainers that flash when they walk. They do nothing to help them run quicker, but they think they look good. :)

Spot on, two ok either side, my opinion, everyone has their opinion, that is what forums are about, friendly discussion.

I actually prefer quad exits on the RCZ *flaming hat on* > as the dual exits make it look similar to the TT, quads are more like a Nissan GTR/Maserati Quattroporte rear end and fill out the RCZ diffuser better IMO...

However it does depend on the car, I have twin pipes on the Jag and don't like quads on that! I know what you're saying though in terms of that it doesn't really need all those pipes (I guess you could argue it doesn't need a twin exit really) BUT it does look better balanced with either twins or quads!

As long as you don't do THIS of course (EPIC FAIL!)

Tis a silly car - soooo light due to ally body. I've driven the slightly less bonkers version, the XJ Supersport on a track (ONLY 510 BHP, vs 542BHP for XJR), it's a hugely impressive car for it's size (even when compared dynamically against the XKR and XFR - as it's actually lighter than both of them) ...

I don't entirely disagree with you. However, the feline kit didn't provide an option of two single pipes and, therefore, quads it was (wanting to maintain my current warranty). Also, prior to the introduction of the R, I always felt that the RCZ was writing cheques that it couldn't cash with its looks. However, I don't necessarily agree with this statement fully. I like the new Golf R and S3 which both have quads. I don't argue that they're necessary but they are aesthetically rather pleasing. Mind you, I probably slightly prefer the two single pipes on the Golf GTI and suspect that the quads were done on the at to provide greater differentiation between the two models.

Some hilarious examples of more extreme exhausting above though. Top work!!

A lot has changed since the days of old when V Engines had side by side exits and straights had singles.

Look at this Mustang GT. 5.0 V8 engine and a true Double 4-2-1

Now look at the Nissan GTR

Going by convention it would be sacrilege to do anything other than a Double 3-1 down each side.
Yet what we see is a Double 3-1-2 :eusa-think:

Why is this? Well Exhaust technology and understanding has moved on considerably since the days of old where "only big engines have dual exits"

There is no doubt that the GTR's setup is way more efficient that the traditional offering on the 'Stang so I guess its time to move on and accept that old perceptions are now fastly becoming redundant..

What about 4 pots like ours then? should they have twin exits? I'd say yes why not.. its not improbable to get a dual sided exit with even exhaust flow either.

have a peek at the Exhaust I had on my MGTF ... Even stevens and shounded great

When it comes to the RCZ though this matter is trivial. because of the location of the wheel well the right handed exit is always going to be an afterthought and merely for cosmetic proportioning.

still when they look this good who cares!

That Mustang looks like it's just Double 4-1?

Still, i maintain that the amount of exhausts have nothing to do with anyhing other than cosmetics on "standard" cars such as ours. Japanese tuner cars mostly have one pipe despite the fact that they have 1300 bhp.

I must add that the original concept car had a centre exhaust but it seems they they were left with having to have reverse lights and rear fogs on the body.. so that scuppered it i suppose. What we have now is a compromise and as its really only a toy.. the quad pipes set it off for me...
I like the actual car better than the concept :) Always thought that rear end looked odd with the centre exhaust :? The Porsche Cayman with the centre exhaust looks terrible too i think.
