Turbo in gone...

Yesterday I was coming from work when suddenly I felt a huge loss of power and a strange short noise, I slowed down a bit and moments after, everything was ok. But late night, the same thing happened, I can't hear that turbo whisper no more and feel like I have a 206 (without wanting to offend anyone or diminish the peugeot 206) and a warning appeared on the BC saying: "Engine fault: please require immediate check" something like this, it was in portuguese... This morning I went to check again and turned the engine on and there was the warning...Monday morning I'll pay a visit to my dealer

Have any of you experienced something like this or heard something about the reliability of it?

Thanks

Hmmm :eusa-think:

I have mine booked in on Tues to have a similar issue looked at. Although there is no warning light there is definitely a drop in power initially pulling away and accelerating seams to be slower than before.

I don't know if it's me getting use to the engine and sound box but there is definitely a whining noise louder than the noise from the sound box at the moment and a noticeable drop in power/torque. I've had turbo engines before and this noise is louder than the usual. There was a strange 'catching screeching' noise briefly last week but thought it was a stone chip caught on on a brake pad, maybe it was and is coincidental.

Anyhow we'll see what tues brings.. hopefully good news as this is a superb car and that comes from an ex-TT driver.

Well it's Thursday and no more problems, all is well. It's amazing how small things can seem bigger than what they actually are! In this case a faulty spark plug problem! lol :)

Question for the "turbo power gone" sufferers...

Do you leave the engine ON when say washing the car? leave it sitting for 10-15 mins before setting off in the morning to warm up or clear the windows?

morning

dont have this problem Figo but are you referring to what might be known as "simmering" the turbo to avoid premature wear?

Hi,

No, I do not leave the engine on when washing it nor do I wait 10-15 mins before setting off in the morning...

I took my rcz to the dealer on Monday and they told me that was something related to the gas filter. It was all ok when I took it on tuesday morning but today the same warning and the loss of power appeared.
I'm getting tired of warnings and bad service from Peugeot as I've done nothing wrong regarding the regular driving style.

As an owner of many past car's none of witch have ever had a turbo fitted i'm a bit confused.
Should an engine fitted with a turbo be run differntly to a "normal" engine.. :eusa-think:

My car is due in a few weeks, and the last thing i want is to be running the car in such a way that it may affect the turbo.

We only do many local driving with the odd motorway journey thrown in now and then, averaging around 5000 miles a year.

I know that regular oil changes are important, but is there anything else i should know ?

Dont thrash it before its warmed up - (thats oil warmed up not just that the water temp has moved off the stop)

The turbo is driven by the engine exhaust gasses so can get very very hot , If its been driven hard dont switch it off without letting the car idle for 30 secs to a minute to allow the oil flow to cool the turbo back down.

Have regular oil changes using decent quality stuff.

'bout it really...

Nice one Marcus,
Would short journeys have more of an issue than long ones ? The car will be used more for short commuting rather long motorway driving.

Re: Turbo is gone...

Hi all
We had a similar thing happen on Sunday just gone. Happily driving home on A50 near Stoke coming off the roundabout felt a sudden jolt (no noise) then no power or should I say very little, enough to get us into a layby. Engine warning light and same message came on so we called Peugeot assist. Unfortunatley we had the dogs with us so it wasnt ideal standing at the side of a very busy dual carriageway with them. However a very nice chap from the AA came out and put his computer on which came up with a fault code. (I dont have it on me at the mo but can put it on another time if anyone is interested) He managed to clear it and we drove steadily home. The car has been at the dealers for a couple of days and I am getting it back this afternoon. Apparently they have replaced a Turbo regulation electro valve! So we will see how it goes. I must say we are not totally impresses considering we have only done 3300miles in the car. Perhaps I need Peugeot assist extended in case we breakdown again.

very strange.. hope the problem is documented and looked at by Pug. Would hate for the rep of these cars to suffer.

Mind you same problems have been documented on the Mini and 207/308GT so maybe we shouldnt be so surprised since the issue has been kicking about for nearly 3 years now.

Annoying its not been rectified tho!

Hi All,

I thought I'd share a few thoughts and experiences with you regarding loss of turbo assistance.

Previously, I had a 207 gti, with the thp 175 engine, basically one of a series shared with minis, Citroen & Peugeot that were jointly developed by BMW & Peugeot. After about two years, mine developed a power issue, accompanied by a "pollution system faulty" warning message.

After a bit of cruising around the Internet, there appears to have been a design issue with these engines. Reports and postings I have seen suggest there are issues with the timing chain tensioners and camshaft variable valve timing gear, as well as the turbo electro valve, going back to 2007.

In my case the fault re-occurred within a few days of the first warranty repair (just chain tensioners replaced) the second warranty repair changed the timing gear. All seemed fine after that but I changed cars 4 months later, so can't be absolutely sure.

What I would suggest to anyone with a similar fault is that they arm themselves with a bit of Internet research (ther is also a Peugeot 'info. flash' about these type of issues) and politely approach their dealer with a view to getting them fixed. Don't be put off by responses amounting to 'it's just one of those things'. I would also resist requests to pay for any oil change needed on the grounds that it wouldn't need changing if the fault hadn't occurred.

I can supply more info on Internet searched, links etc. if anyone needs them but not for a few days 'cos I'm on holiday in Spain.

I was hoping all these issues had been fixed with modified parts but perhaps I'm wrong?!

I had this on my 308CC GT back in March, car took nearly 4 weeks to be repaired. It was one of the reasons why I took a £10k+ hit and traded it in for the RCZ last week.

If anything similar happens with the RCZ, then it is the last Peugeot I will ever buy - and I'm on my 9th Peugeot.
