I have always enjoyed watching Top Gear, and I have liked the comedic style certain articles have been given, but not only did I find it somewhat offensive the way Peugeot drivers were portrayed, I think that the comedy value of the article was there for a short time, but then it was as if they had been given a set amount of time to fill, so they just went on and on and on, losing whatever mild amusement there may have been to start with. :sleeping-yellow:
Also, if they are to be taken seriously at all as motoring journalists, then how could they do a feature on a manufacturer, mentioning specifically their sporting heritage (albeit for a very small part of a monotonous segment) without mentioning what has to be classed as the current sporting pinnacle of that particular manufacturer. :eusa-think:
If they did a feature on say BMW mentioning their sports models, but didn't bother talking about the M series, there would be quite a lot of confused expressions around.
So how they could talk about the sporting history of Peugeot, and NOT say anything at all about the RCZ has left me with the opinion that this is actually more of an "entertainment/comedy" show than an actual motoring information show.
I realise that in the past, they have had a bit of a laugh with for example "the cool wall" where some absolute cr#p has been classed as super cool, while some superb super cars have been tossed aside for very silly reasons. But that segment was clearly meant as "comedy opinions", whereas the Peugeot article was clearly quite a disappointment to many many people who have paid out substantial sums of money for cars they obviously considered to be pretty good, only to see the entire current range from one manufacturer put down big time, but not only that, but to ridicule anyone who had been stupid enough to buy from that manufacturer.
I actually don't like Peugeot as a brand, this is the third Pug I have owned, and although I have not had any cause for complaint with my previous cars, I never expected to go out and buy another Peugeot, as I believe there are many many car manufacturers producing much better cars than Pug. If it wasn't for the RCZ, I would definitely not have bought another Peugeot. And you see, this was the problem for Top Gear, coz they had slanted the article to show how bad Peugeot had become, so how could they then stick the RCZ on the end, it wouldn't have made any sense. It's not as if Peugeot have now gone off on yet another direction, producing top sports cars, the RCZ is a one-off, so it simply didn't fit into their comedy synopsis. :?:
Wow! Did I just write all that? I must leave the Vodka Red Bull alone on week days
