To buy or not to buy

Hi I've been reading the forum posts over the last wk and added a few posts, my question is now to buy or not to buy . The rcz is my favorite car I have the money and found a lovely gray metallic 156 gt 61 plate 17000 mls, but there are some scary issues raised on here ie sensor failures of all descriptions not to mention t/chain tensioners to name a few, surely there must be some fault free rczs.in 25yrs and 15ish cars I've had no trouble except a couple of shockers and 1 clutch , I've got a trouble free ds3 110 hdi to Px, how likely is my rcz of having 1 or more of these issues ? Has anyone on the forum got or had a troubl free rcz ,, is there a particular yr of manufacture that present the issues? Help put my mind at rest really want this car , I will be getting 2 yr warranty but I don't want to be in and out the garage all the time , is there a percentage of good and bad rczs ??? Cheers Alan

I can understand your concerns but I think you are being a bit extreme. I'm on my second RCZ. The first had the timing chain issue. The second had the temp sensor fault. Both were dealt with in a day by my dealer which did not leave me off the road. I have by no means been back and forth to my dealer. These faults have in no way reduced my enjoyment of the RCZ. There are many people on here who have enjoyed trouble free motoring. None more so than a member who completed 90k+ trouble free miles in his first RCZ. He is now on his second.

You could go out tomorrow and buy an Audi, BMW, Ferrari or Kia and have many many problems. It's a risk we all take when we buy a car. In this case I think the risk is worth taking.

Thanks for your reply and you are right of course , it's the chance u take and I will , Iam buying from a reputable independant garage which has been in business 31 yrs I just needs to check the 2 yr warranty they offer covered the timing chain,,just incase ,, I test drove a few at main peugeot dealers but they were so pushy not to mention they offered me £1200 less for my Px than the independant garage ,,, Iam going to buy it what the hell cheers

"is there a percentage of good and bad rczs?"

Yes I believe so. There's the good diesels and the bad petrols , but percentage wise I haven't as yet worked it out. Seriously though enjoy the car otherwise somebody else probably will.

The other obvious thing to mention is that a lot of RCZ owners are not on this forum. A lot of people on this forum found the forum via a search engine. The reason they was doing a search is because they had an issue with their RCZ it is therefore a fairly safe assumption that many of the RCZ owners out there with RCZ's have not had any issues. My two HDi's have been trouble free and we have owners of Petrol engined RCZ's on here who have not had any issues either. It's good to do your research before buying, but you should not assume that the entire production line of RCZ's are going to develop the same faults.

I saw an AA van broken down on the A64 the other day, I haven't cancelled my policy with them believing that they may breakdown on route to repair my faulty RCZ. Forums will always highlight issues and generally you will only remember the bad issues. However many people talk in glowing terms about their RCZ. I suggest that you try to put the negatives into perspective safe in the knowledge that now you have the knowledge of what to look out for and the comfort of knowing that Peugeot will foot the bill for anything that may go wrong.

The RCZ is a beautiful car to drive and to own and will always enjoy the experience of ownership.

Mine is a '61 plate 200THP. I bought it with 11k miles and it's now done 29k. There have been two visits to the dealer - one for a standard 2 year service and the other for 40mins while they replaced the rear LED light (one unit in the row had failed). I don't think that's too bad. :D

Just one other thing, before you trade in your car, have you tried the instant car buyers that give you a price online for your motor? Before I bought my RCZ I had a civic to part ex, they were offering almost what I'd been quoted at a dealer. Sometimes a cash sale can bring the price down a little or give you some extra leverage on I.E mats, full of petrol, a boot liner etc.
I didn't use we buy any car in the end as we bought our car near London (I'm in Yorkshire) and needed to get there to pick up , so a part ex suited us better.
Go for the RCZ, every time you'll walk up to it you will know you did the right move

I'm also on my second RCZ.

Never had the temp sensor issue and only thought I had the timing chain issue once - turned out I didn't.

the Hdi is a very reliable machine. very few problems to report. there has been some issues with the thp engines but i wouldn't let that disuade you from buying one. if the car is for you then "buy" is my advice. there is plenty of help and advice on here to assist you. check out that warranty first and then buy it
