I was told by a Peugeot that if you make sure the oil
is at the correct level that the timing chain will out last the car.

Yep, noted on here many issues are often down to the (complete) lack of routine care and maintenance by owners...especially important as THP engines can use so much oil....keep the oil topped to Max.
