Hi all,

Having a bit of a nightmare with this, bought the car in November (14 plate mk2) and moved to Liverpool about a month ago.

Took for an MOT and was advised it wouldn't pass emissions and he thought it was a timing issue, recommended I take it to a Peugeot dealer. Took it there and they done some basic diagnostics on it and told me to find the fault they would need to strip the whole engine for £750! Thats before even fixing anything. Checked online and the fault codes and symptoms I have seem to be in line with the timing chain needing replaced like others but I literally cannot find an independent garage that will take the job on im stumped as to what to do here..

Anybody in this area had this work done at all that can recommend anywhere?

Post the codes up & mileage I would imagine a decent indie garage can do the job problem is have they the tool kit to set the engine timing? Some won't buy one for any sort of one off jobs etc

P1358 & P2338 are the codes, mileage is at nearly 58k

My biggest issue is finding a garage, the last one I rang just said they wont do it on this car because its a pain 😒

P2338 Cylinder 3 above knock threshold as for P1358 it could possibly be the Chain & or maybe the Tensioner alone is failing as the piston starts to seize thus chain can run slack causing ECU to pick up multiple misfires across all 4 cylinders & it will struggle to readjust air/fuel mixture & cam & crank sensors will alert it to the Engine timing is out of sync
So basically the ECU is being sent data from the Knock cam & crank sensors that No3 is creating higher than normal vibrations now its down to (A) Knock sensor dying a death or is there a serious mechanical problem with that cylinder possibly why the dealers won't take any chances as the sensor picks up structure borne vibrations & converts these to electrical signals which alert the ECU to change the Parameters to stop serious damage to the engine

Benza Autos Birkenhead. The guy there knows the engine he's an independent Peugeot specialist. He did a job for me about 18 months ago.
Give him a ring think his name was Tony. Its not far from Birkenhead North station if you visit dont be put off by the amount Mercs outside because he also does Mercedes.

How much did you end up paying for the job from there? I'm booked in with another garage in Birkenhead Monday but the quote was 1k

They didn't do my timing chain. Tony replaced my brake booster and master cylinder £200. He was surprised when I told him what car it was that I wasn't asking for the timing chain to be done 🤣

No engine codes just CO running slightly high, going to stick some redex in the tank and go for a long drive and see if it improves

You can get a post combustion Air leak High CO is generally too much Fuel it can be related to crankcase vapour control/evap system/fuel delivery check the cat is sealed properly?
If in doubt test the fuel pressure & also the fuel trims are another sign that the fuel delivery is at fault
Lambda sensors are another pointer as the ECU will get faulty data & may increase the fuel/Air ratio to compensate for the wrong info causing high CO readings
