Timing Chain Garage Suggetion

Hi,

Can anyone recommend a good garage that will do timing chain replacements in the Norfolk/Suffolk area?

There is a local Peugeot dealer very close to me but I know this will be very expensive.

If there aren't any in the area then just suggest anywhere and I'll travel and stay in a hotel.

Thanks. I'll give them a call.
I'm not sure when or if to get it done though because it is over the 10 year replacement by about 5 months (that I know of as it could have been changed before) but the chain sounds fine.

mine rattled like hell at that mileage on start up , if yours is quiet after 1 second it’s fine if it rattles for a bit it’s stretched , you could try putting a new tensioner in to see if that stopes it but mine was to far gone

Thought it was only the diesel Hdi which is cambelt driven had a 10 year / 120,000 miles change ?. Timing chains are normally engine lifelong items and only changed on demand.

That is turning into a myth on some engines, cars with timing chains are failing because of the ancillaries (not the chain itself) like tensioners, guides and oil feeds etc which deteriorate and then fail causing the chain to jump teeth, not get lubed etc.

The chain has 68 mm of stretch before it dies off I reckon if you measured every chain that was replaced for Rattles most would be still be in the engine unless they were completely finished but as pointed out its the tensioner that dies off first because the piston seizes in the bore mainly because of poor oil viscosity

The main thing is that you keep the oil topped up each week and use the correct oil as the prince engines are well known for using oil and if not looked after by neglecting keeping an eye on oil levels then that's when the trouble starts....

Misfires+ loss of around 25% of power (1 cylinder) you could get unburnt fuel into the exhaust which can damage the cat & cause fuel/air ratio problems which the ECU cannot correct it has also been known to find burnt valves through bad chamber detonation
