THP200 gt sitting in a pool of oil

Hi all,

So after last months trip to the dealers for a new temp switch i get back from a works trip to Germany to see the car sitting in a pool of its own oil all over my new drive.

Phoned peugeot Friday night and booked it in this morning. After some inspections it seems there are 2 leaks.
1 From the head gasket and the second from the timing chain???? not sure where?

Just waiting to get authorisation for the repair from the warrenty company as its 3 months out off the 3 year peugeot and has 17,009 miles on the clock.

To say im getting a little frustrated now is a understatement and may be the nail in the coffin for my ownership.

this year my trips to the dealers this year involve:

New rhs top mount
New lhs top mount
New rhs strut
Repair to dash board to fix faulty heating
Temp sensor fault
AutoHeadlight Faliure
Front seats moving under braking
Service/mot - ok no problem here as its a annual trip

My biggest gripe is that it was serviced 2 months ago and 3 weeks ago was in againg for the tempreature fault.

I really love the car but now feel like i have no choice but to sell up as i cant keep having days off to take it in all the time.

:(

Sorry to hear this but 17K miles only and it is 3-years old!? You didn't drive it enough to put it through it's paces for problems to raise their ugly head during the warranty period, so what has happened could of happened miles ago and still in warranty. Also sounds like the dealership is incompetent with the repairs, but hopefully it will all work out in the end.

But it never amazes me to hear people driving their new car so carefully, okay maybe for the first 1K miles do so, but after that drive it and don't be afraid to put your foot down, and if it is going to break then it will be fixed under the warranty period (it will make the weak point in the car fail sooner rather than later when it is a problem). Today's engines are built ready to go straight from day one, not like they use to be where their was a break-in period, also synthetics have improved things.

Again I am sorry to hear this and I am not here to cause any waves, just speaking my opinion.

Now I am ready for the back lash

I'm not sure how not doing enough miles In a car per year makes it less likely to have problems out of warranty?

My old lotus exige had 27k on the clock with me only doing 2-3k per year and it never missed a beat.

We bought the Rcz for my other half as a approved used from our local pug dealer. Was sold to a old lady who had it for 17 months and chopped it in for a 207. It had only 9k on the clock at the time so it is getting used and properley my Mrs has a heavy foot so it's not pottering around

Still no word from the warranty Department on if they will pay

The old lady was probably using cheap fuel that caused knock resulting in damage to the head. Poor service from Peugeot remains unacceptable though.

Mine had something like that this summer. I drove away and saw a big black pool in the rearview mirror. And not long before my dashboard light started flashing and beaping etc.
Mine leaked oil from the 'electric valve' (I don't know the english word for it,....I even dont know what this part does even knowing the name in my own language ;) ).
It was a very expensive repair (about 900euro) but I had to pay only 25% because mine was just 2 months out of garanty.

Last week they did a wintercheck and found a leak at the belt tensioner
This would cost me again 25% of the actual repaircosts but I would like to know how many thing can leak oil on this engine because the reduced repaircosts won't be there for ever!

That explains it better, you are not the original owner. If the car was never driven previously like you drive it now (doesn't mean hard or the like, just more miles and using the power of the car more often), then this is when the engine goes, wait a minute what's this about...I don't like it...and takes a crap. Okay not all the time but it is a common problem that I have read time and time again and been told by friends that buy used cars with low mileage. I always stay away from low mileage cars, and I am talking very low mileage as in your case. But again sometimes it just happens and can't be avoided.

Just don't give-up on it and hope the warranty does take affect for you. If it does and that work is covered and maybe a little more coverage, then I say give it what it deserves and drive to see if anything will go.

Good luck.

My car will be 1 yr old next month at Xmas... And it's doing 14k km. So far no issue arises. Only aircond valve issue.

Ok update today,

The warranty company said they would pay the head gasket and the timing chain tensioner but not all the labour only a percentage so......

The total bill to me would be £857. After a little negotiation the dealer said they would pay half out of good will. I then said no I will take the car and take it back to a stratstone dealer ship where I bought it from where I have to pay nothing as they cover everything and would you believe it peugeot uk are going to cover the remaining balance so fingers crossed I get it back Friday foc

Well into the 11th day of no car and still no closer

As soon as I get it back it's gone I'm so fed up :helpme:

Car was promised back last Friday but the technicians found more parts that needed to be replaced and ordered.

Was then promised back Monday but didn't get finished.
Today it got put back in 1 piece but after a test drive oil was still found to be leaking.

So far I know the timing chain has been replaced and the electronic oil valve

All with 17,000 miles

Lost the will to live

No sign on the horizon I will be getting it back soon

I know it's scant consolation to you right now being without your car but it does sound like your dealer is doing their best to sort it out for you. It must be better for them to get it right rather than hand it over to you, only for you to find another leak. Often these sort of things are not easy to pin down to one thing so it's a case of elimination. Hold in there and hopefully it will be repaired to your satisfaction and back on the road.

The truth this lady speaks. I too would rather leave the car there for an extended period of time and make sure everything is fixed than get it back and have it break again.

Confidence in a car and the dealerships are paramount to piece of mind motoring,l personally could not keep a car no matter what Marques it is,with the problems and grief you have been given by both car and the incompetent dealerships, hope your luck takes a turn for the better keiran whatever you chose to do.

Thanks for the above comments

I truly agree with the comments I too want the car back with no leaks present but I find myself asking time and time again why my company car (£17k ) ford focus has 86,000 miles and has never ever let me down and yet this year our second car has seen more of peugeot than my garage.

Waiting to hear back today- another gripe with the dealer, seems I have to ring on progress checks every day to find out where it's at.

Have to see.

In the end its your car and your money. If you are not happy with it or the dealer, flog it.
