Thinking of buying - but am concerned

Hi,

I am thinking of buying a May 2011 Peugeot RCZ HDI SPORT, 2L engine with 75k miles on it.

My own mechanic has little experience with them so couldn't advise.

A friend who deals in cars immediately said "scrap, don't buy, they give lots of problems, especially with the engine".

Can anyone here please advise on whether or not I should buy this car?

I am concerned that I could buy something that will cause me loads of issues and cost me alot of money.

The cement mixer HDi is pretty bomb proof.
Not as 100% reliable as some crow about but pretty good.
Mainly dpf issues if you drive like a Grandma.

Always be concerned when you are spending your hard-earned.
Do some research in addition to a friend's dismissive comment.
I have done so few kilometres in La Gata Negra to make any conclusions on the HDI, but much of what I read here on this forum indicated more problems with the petrol engines.
It is always a gamble buying a motor, so take some time to browse and reach your own conclusions.
I bought a diesel for several reasons, and have not regretted it yet.
Two trips of mine are written up in recent posts, so they might help, but not on reliability.

Very few problems with the HDI engine. Probably far less than most manufacturers Diesel engines. In fact, many manufacturers fitted Peugeot Diesel engines in their own cars in the past, including Volvo.

If you are tempted by the RCZ then probably the most reliable version would be the 163bhp HDI.

No one can promise fault free motoring, at least 2 brand new Merc’s On my estate have been back & forward to the garage with persistent problems, but as far as Mk1 RCZ’s go, the HDI is the best bet for reliability.

Hi nib,

I have a 2014 Hdi and have never had a diesel car before

Had reports on here that they're bulletproof

100%happy and dont think I could go back to petrol

In fact I am looking for another now for the wife

My son works for Audi and keeps saying get a TT

But they don't rock my boat...
