Good afternoon! My car is having a problem with the temperature it's staying low most of the time, so it's probably the thermostat or the temperature sensor. I call to my local specialist and quote me for the full thermostat housing 350, including everything. It sound too much, any opinion?

Hi and welcome to the forum? £350 sounds way too much 😮
I would try a temp sensor it used to be a common issue on early cars and even some of the replacement sensors were faulty.

It's 2013 model 1.6 156hp so i think it's probably is not easy to change just the sensor, it's probably need to change the full housing 🤔 but not sure 🤔

It’s a fairly easy job to swap the temp sensor and they’re cheap too.

The main symptom is that even after a long drive the cars temperature is not going higher than 70, when I'm not moving it gradually goes up but by the time I start moving again goes down to 60-70 again🤔

Is the Fan on & off when the Engines running or when your moving ? The sensor issue is a known failure & check if your car was recalled by Peugeot to have the fault rectified ?

It sounds like the thermostat is stuck open. I had exactly the same problem with my 1.6 156HP. I replaced the thermostat housing (the thermostat is not removeable) and it's not too difficult. There are two larger hoses, two smaller hoses, an electrical connector, three bolts and a fitting (which the screwdriver is pointing to) that needs to be engaged properly before a wire retaining clip will slot into place. It's the wire clip that is most difficult as you can't see what you're doing so it's all done by feel. If you go to Peugeot main dealer they will probably insist on doing a diagnostic check first (about £100?) which is a complete waste of time for this fault. I bought my thermostat housing on Ebay. T think it was about £35 (genuine part) but it was quite some time ago and I can't be sure. Anyway, at about 10% of the price you've been quoted it might be worth a go! Cheers. Bruce.

Bruce i can't agree more, but I don't have the tools neither the experience nor the place to do it, so it's not possible for me to do it. Also this quote is not from a Peugeot dealer, but from a Peugeot specialist in derby! Thank you for you answer to my question!

Hi. I'm sure it will be fine to drive it for a couple of weeks. It will just use a bit more fuel as it will be running below temperature. The price of £350 seems high for what is probably two hours work at most. Maybe shop around for a cheaper quote - I know it's probably not easy to do that at the moment! Cheers. Bruce.

My only fear, to be honest is that I don't trust the mechanics. I'm afraid that something is going to be wrong because these engines are tricky and most of the mechanic don't know a lot about theses engines.

Usually the fan is triggered when the Engine temp is too high but I know for fact that if you thrash these cars from cold this also causes the fan to come on full

Very interesting as I did view a red carbon and on startup the fan came on and did not go off and the engine was cold..... So I walked away....

Look for a mini specialist same engine as a Cooper S, easy job for them.

Thanks guys! I'll see what I will do, still trying to find a good and knowledgeable mechanic for these engines without have to pay an excessive amount of money

VOILA CE QUE J'AVAIS ECRIS SUR LE FO
Bonjour,

voila c'est pas plus compliqué
