The Timing Problems

Thats the thing I enjoyed the 156 I too and never really found it wanting if you kept the turbo on spool..

Perhaps for reliability though the HDi might be the better option.

Ron diesels in general have become far better l agree so have petrol engine's ie fuel economy, avrils new fiesta is diesel a 1.6 durateq it's a lovely car to drive but if you don't do the mileage it's not worth it full stop

Jassy jassy jassy. What on earth has cost got to do with it? You don't make your engine choice based on, is it worth it. After all you want a 65" all singing all dancing TV. You could watch the same things on a 32"

The diesel gives you torque, it allows you to overtake at will, It lasts longer and holds it's price better and seems to be more reliable than it's petrol equivalents. Oh ye and it does more miles to a gallon

But l still wouldn't buy a diesel engined car again as they don't handle as well as the petrol equivalent

Morning folks... Hoping to be back in an RCZ within 2 months.

Question i have is about the timing issues that were abundant in the 2010 / 2011 models. Have they been fixed by uprated parts yet?

Do we still think its a case of labouring the engine that causes the timing slip combined with running the cars on lower octane - read normal - fuel.

Im probably a glutten for punishment but I need an RCZ back on the drive ;)
Hi , answer to question is no , as I found out myself , according to peugeot garage there are to many engines with faulty timing tensioner to recall them so the just wait for it to happen and if your lucky they repair under warranty , mine was out by 10 days , took weeks to sort , peugeot were good enough to pay for parts !!! I had to pay labour ' £670 , cheek as it's a fault they know about , the other problem is the way the gear is fixed to the cam , no key just a taper which if bolt slackens off the timing moves till it goes out to far and won't start , mine must have been out before I bought it as now it's much quicker

But then look at one of our members (who's name escapes me at this time in the morning) who has done 80,000 miles plus in his petrol Z, without a hitch :)

I test drove a 156 and it felt slower than my 1.6 206.

Well it isn't. It's about 3 seconds quicker from standing to 62 and I imagine, though I haven't looked into it, that the in gear acceleration is also considerably quicker. The secret to getting the most performance is exactly as Figo says. The 156 needs to be driven pretty hard to get the most out of it performance wise.

In what way does a petrol engine "handle" better than a diesel? I can't see how the power pack can effect handling. I have never known a car handle better than a RCZ, especially in and out of bends.

Cause oil burning cast iron block engines are considerably heavier that all aluminium petrol versions and more weight affects performance and handling. ;)

AND the diesel RCZ doesn't have the front lower brace bar that the THP 200 does.

Still handles very very well despite having a heavier more reliable lump in the front. As for the missing brace, well I guess what you've never had you don't miss. The other thing, at 100,000 miles a petrol engine is nearing the end of it's economical life, whilst the diesel is barely run in

100,000 miles is just halfway there! Would you take a MY2010 Peugeot 508 with 110.000 miles on it to the scrapyard just because? I don't think so. That car is still brand new.

At 200.000 miles the cars are starting to be past it but there's no reason why they wouldn't run just as well despite that.

I don't know how stuff works in the UK but over here we actually use our cars til they aren't good for it anymore.

Yours probably fall about through rust before the engine dies. Road salt is a proper killer in some countries

Yes we got road salt like 4-5 months a year over here.

The old Corolla i had (which are notably rusty by nature) was still like 95% rust free when i sold it and it had done, to my knowledge 161.000 miles. And was still running like new aside from it leaked/ate a bit of oil.

Also had a Peugeot 405 that had done something like 185.000 miles that also had no problems. Ran like it always had.

Point being, just about any car (exept today's hybrid/electric crap they're selling. Would like to see one of those in 20 years.....) .....can run a million miles if properly looked after.

Anyway we've gone badly off-topic again.....

Where did that come from!

Gotta love a bit of RCZ off topic-ness
