The RCZ Tyre.....

Probably going to need some new front tyres in the next few weeks / months.
(Haven't quite decided how long to leave it for).
Approaching 15k miles with some spirited driving at times.
Car is around 1.5 years old.

Interesting information on the Tyre that we have:

Continental ContiSport Contact 3
235
SECTION WIDTH 40
ASPECT RATIO 19
RIM DIAMETER W
SPEED 96
Extra load

Extremely sportive, safety without concessions.
Extremely precise steering and safety when driving fast.
Shorter braking distances on wet or dry roads.
Substantial directional precision guarantees vehicle grip when it gathers speed, at the moment when lateral forces increase.
The asymmetrical profile of the ContiSportContact 3 was specially designed to absorb these forces.
Even if the steering wheel is turned abruptly or if the road surface changes, the path must not change.

Strengths:
Extremely precise steering due to the asymmetrical tread profile.
Safety when driving fast.
Shorter braking distances on wet or dry roads owing to the stiffness of the continuous grooves.
Excellent protection against aquaplaning.

Safety:
Braking in dry conditions 8/10
Braking in wet conditions 8/10
Grip in wet conditions 8/10
Aquaplaning resistance 8/10

Driving comfort:
Handling 9/10
Tyre noise level 7/10
Ride quality 7/10

Value for money:
Tyre wear 7/10
Rolling resistance 8/10

And that is why I'm going to replace like with like

Local prices are showing:

Kwik-Fit: £260 each (fitted, balanced, etc) on-line
Kwik-Fit: £341 each (fitted, balanced, etc) just turn up

ATS Euromaster: £282 each. Don't know if these are fitted, balanced, etc within price as their website doesn't say.

All other local garages don't do price checks on-line.

Have you checked the prices online from the likes of mytyres, black circles, camskill?

I always buy my tyres online these days, getting them fitted locally. Tend to save a tidy amount :)

jactac got a conti 3 for £215  jumped up prices you have given for the sake of 5mm as 35's are better for sharper steering response ;) because of the lower profile the conti3 aint that great in the wet that much it came 8th -7th-last in wet driving in autoexpress shoot out.IN the dry its 1st and 2nd

Gooyear eagle F1 Assymetric2 winning in both conditions

Kwik-Fit are a bloody rip off, charging nearly £100 extra if you just turn up

are they much cheaper with a 35 profile then?

Gorwell, I am interested to know if the marks out of 10 are your opinion or have you taken these and the other info from a magazine or online or something? Cheers

Hi,

No, they're not my ratings - When I was looking for information on the Tyre, found this website which provided the narrative / ratings in my original post.

Unfortunately, I can't for the life of me remember which website.
Possibly a Link off the ATS Website ?? :eusa-think:

Booked in for two new front tyres on Thursday (5 April 2012) next week.

Final price, fully fitted, inclusive of everything i.e. balancing, etc: £236 per tyre

Other Local Garages had ranged between £250 - £280 (per tyre).

Celebrated my "low price" tyres with Work Colleagues.
Not such a good idea as they all said "what a rip-off" and if they were thinking of buying an RCZ the price of this sort of basic requirement had now certainly put them off.

Oops :? :wtf: :eusa-think:

Err....yeah....I think you've missed the point Jassy :eusa-think:

They were looking at spending around £60 a tyre.
Spending £215 per tyre would have received the same reaction.

Apologies, I should really expand on my Posts so that the Intellectually Challenged amongst us can also participate in a useful way
