Temperature Sensor Fault - DIY Repair! (Not a bodge!)

Wish I had known about this and Peugeot could have informed me of recall ( presuming I was lucky enough to be on the list ).
I ended up paying a local garage £300 to fix it, it seemed ok for a day then went barmy again. Took it to a diagnostic specialist who told me if you don't want to fix it just unplug it but remember to keep an eye on the coolant levels. That stopped it misbehaving and guess what ? I forgot to re-connect the sensor when I sold the car. It was pretty obvious though as I sat it directly underneath the coolant bottle where I had removed it from. Anyone with a bit of sense would see where it came from. Anyway annoying to pay £300 for a garage which clearly didn't know what they were doing as they replaced the wrong part, which in essence must have been ok.

Isn't that coolant level sensor you are talking about?

Isn't that coolant level sensor you are talking about?

Yes it is Nemi. But the garage thought it was the temperature sensor and changed that instead, either way all kinda linked, so still topical lol !!

Hi guys,

I have an issue where my temp goes up and down below 90c, it only started happening ever since i had my radiator and radiator hose changed, i also checked and found the part mentioned for the fualt has already been installed in palce of the bleed screw previously as my car is 2010 reg. Anyone know how i can bleed air out?

This was a recall issue because when I went to order the part after I found out about this fault I checked if mine had been sorted luckily my mate who is a service manager in the local Peugeot garage put the reg in & it had been recalled so obviously its a generic fault mine is on a 2013 plate but saying that he did stress only put in the correct Peugeot part & not try a cheap fix same with the coolant level sensor which is another known sensor to go AWOL

Ok having been told by Peugeot here in Cyprus that the only fix was a new modified thermostat housing plus a new sensor at total Parts cost of 300€ I asked instead for this sensor at 50€ and just fitted in bleed hole. All seems good, temp gauge now works. Perhaps a daft question but the “spare” plug marked BMW - is that supposed to be plugged anywhere or is it to fit the BMW variant electrics? The other plug is of course plugged into the wire that I took off the housing. Is the thermostat electrically driven or heat?

The thermostat operation is coolant Temperature but the signal is sent to the ECU via the sensor which then commands the electronically controlled Water pump to begin the cooling cycle so its a mechanical & electrical system
