Hi All,
I can see there are quite few posts on steering racks failing on RCZ's.
Mine has had a knock on the nearside front which bent the tie rod which I have now replaced.
However, I am getting, what's best described as, 'shuddering' feedback through the steering wheel when driving over rough / uneven ground.
It's perfect on smooth roads, no vibrations, tracks perfectly etc.
I watched some old racing car footage the other day and I could see a lot of 'shuddering' / feedback coming back through the steering wheel which looked very much like what I am experiencing with mine now.
I suspect that the knock on the nearside front wheel has in some way damaged the oil seals in the steering rack which is now offering much less resistance to vibrations from the road surface finding it's way back through the steering rack to the steering wheel, i.e. little or no damping.
My questions are as follows:
Has anyone else experienced anything like this?
Can the seals in the steering rack be replaced and are they easy to do?
Do all models of RCZ have the same steering racks? Mine is a 2015 2.0 HDI GT Diesel. If the steering racks are different for different models does anyone have the part number for a diesel?
I guess I can just buy one from a breaker and have it fitted in the hope it fixes my 'shuddering'. Any thought?
Any help / advice much appreciated.
