Short shift

Can anyone who has driven both the gt and the sport models comment on the differences in the short shift gear stick? Is it noticeably different?

Thanks!

I cannot discern much of a difference in the gear stick but certainly in the steering wheel that comes with it. Worth it for the wheel alone

I have a Sport and recently test drove a GT. To be honest there was no discernible difference in the gear change. Until you've asked the question, it hadn't actually registered that there was a difference. The most noticeable difference was the smaller Sports steering wheel. It's so much better than the big steering wheel. So if you want a sport model, spec the Sport pack or just buy the Sports wheel from RCZ Performance.

This is one of your more garbled posts jassy. What are you actually saying here? I don't know about RCZ MK2 but from memory on the original RCZ not even the GT had the short shift. This came with the optional extra "Sports Pack" and so presumably available on either the GT or Sport variant

On the new model according to the stealership paperwork the gt has short shift as standard now.

That is correct but if you order the sports pack, then you get the same.

Can I try to clarify things a bit.

I bought the GT, as standard the gear stick was the same as the Sport model.
However if you purchased the optional "Interior Sports Kit " (as I did) , the gear stick was a bit shorter, the steering wheel was a bit smaller and had the RCZ motif stamped into it, and you had the "sound box". This pack cost £320 inc VAT.

All 3 changes were part of the "Interior Sports Kick" upgrade, and at the time the option to have the upgrade was only available on the GT.

On the new model the smaller "sports" gear stick is standard on the GT.
I'm not sure if the smaller sports steering wheel is standard or optional, and as for the "sound box" I believe that this is also standard on the new GT model.
If both the smaller gear stick and smaller steering wheel are now standard on the GT, then it mystifies me what is now included in the optional "Sports Pack" upgrade. :?:

Is there a noticeable difference in the gear sticks ? Umm not really :eusa-think:

The smaller steering wheel and shorter gear stick are now standard on the GT and I believe 200 Sport model.
On all other models you can buy as an option the Sports Pack, which includes the above as well as the exhaust noise.

You wouldn't specify a Sport pack on the new facelifted GT as its standard therefore saving you some money to spend on something else of your choosing, if you do desire.

So if I'm reading that correctly the smaller sports gear stick and smaller sports steering wheel are now standard on the new GT and 200, but the sound box is not on the new GT or 200, but is an option on other models, ie the Sport as that's the only other model :eusa-think:

Or am I reading it wrong

The "sound box" will be standard on GT and 200 Sport which comes with the Sport pack. If you option the Sport pack on the other models then you get that as well as the smaller steering wheel and gear stick. I hope that clears up the confusion :)

You guys do know a short shift box has very little to do with the actual length of the stick but rather the throw. A short shift box would require less action\movement between gates. We've only got one spec RCZ THP 200 in SA and the very first thing I noticed when driving the car was that short notchy change you find in sports cars. I love it! For interest sake, this is a pick of my RCZ interior:

Only thing i think is extra on the car is the xenons...

I can confirm that the 200Gt has a short shift gearbox.

Yes we've got bogged down in shorter this and that, but the shorter throw comes with the Sport Pack or if standard on GT :)

Well I will hold my hand up and confess that I thought it was just a " shorter sporty gear stick"

In fact I cannot recall anyone or any post /thread on here that has discussed the "Sports Interior Pack" in detail, ever actually say that the gear shift throw is different on an RZC with the Sports Pack option, compared to the standard gear change.
Even the sales guy that sold me the car said it was a cosmetic upgrade (apart from sound box) . No mention of a different type of gear change.

As for being notchy, I think nearly every RCZ owner has picked up on that, whether they have the Sports Pack upgrade or not :eusa-think:

So i'm now even more confused

And I am not sure about the soundbox on the new model as it is not mentioned in the blurb about the sports pack...

I remember reading some Peugeot literature about the gearbox on the THP200 when I bought mine.
But here's Autoexpress latest review

There are two strands to the RCZ range - the lower-powered 156bhp 1.6-litre turbo petrol or 163bhp 2.0-litre diesel and the flagship 200bhp 1.6-litre turbo petrol. The latter gets specially beefed up front suspension, a smaller steering wheel and a short-throw six-speed gearbox. Along with the punchy engine - which allows 0-60mph in 7.6 seconds and feels very fast - it's much more involving and grippy to drive. The lower-powered versions don't have the same immediacy but are still good fun, though. Ride quality can be firm over broken tarmac, but all models are quite refined at high speeds on the motorway. Facelifted models are especially quiet, thanks to special acoustic insulated windscreens fitted to all RCZs.

Yes but does the Sports Pack Upgrade, alter the gear change ?
It certainly alters the Gear Stick.

The mystery continues
