Shell V Power

Good Day All,

Had my 2.0HDI (Red Carbon) over two weeks and am delighted with it.

Does any member have experience of filling up with Shell Vpower (Diesel)?

Is it worth the extra? Any increase in performance noted?

Thanks

It's certainly worth it in its petrol incarnation but I'm afraid I can't comment on performance diesel fuel. I'll be interested to hear what others have found using it.

Again I can't comment on the diesel version but the petrol equivalent adds considerable improvements on performance. The engine is much more responsive and the power is delivered smoothly and swiftly. It's great stuff :)

I have used this once not really noticed any improvement. I am now using Morrisons fuel and averaging 57.6 mpg. See the fuelly dashboard below.
I have kept a record on fuelly of all my fuel stops for the rcz.
Week 11 I used this.
Best mpg 61.2

I had a 10bhp increase using it over tesco diesel.
Proven with a rolling road :) MPG wise Its about an extra 5 miles per gallon round town. Not sure about motorway though.

I can't really use Shell in my HDi as they do not have many stations around here. Without any doubt in my mind the effect of BP ultimate is very noticeable. The engine is livelier and more responsive. MPG gains are more subjective as every drive is different due to traffic conditions and so you can't easily attribute any gains as being down to the fuel. I believe it is the best fuel fo the car and the car responds well to the fuel. I shall use nothing but the best fuel available. Read the many threads on the subject and make up your own mind

Hello. Over 3500 miles I have used Esso, Shell fuel saver, BP regular and BP Ultimate - all with additives. The BP regular and the Esso return very similar performance/ fuel savings (spending). The Ultimate seemed to provide better low rev response holding onto low revs much better for a similar mpg although higher in the rev range the economy dropped slightly ( approx 1.5 mpg ) compared to Esso and BP regular. The Shell fuelsave was a strange experience. For the first 70 miles my mpg dropped by 10 points which was unexpected. However after a settling in period the mpg rose to become the best of all at over 60 mpg. Even when using the car high up the rev range the economy drop was far lower than it would have been if I had used the other fuels. Performance wise it appears similar to Esso and BP regular.

All of this is just my opinion from a mere 3500 miles of use so it is still a work in progress. I'm pretty happy with all the fuels used and will continue to use them depending on availability and need. I haven't used the Shell Nitro ,but it's just a matter of time before I do.

Enjoy you car and your infrequent fuel fill ups .

I thinks its best to find a fuel that works for you, then stick to it. Fuels from different companies are different, so everytime you change, the car has to relearn how efficient it can make it.
Ive put a tank of tesco fuel in my car for the first time in ages and it has flat spots in all gears :(

It is a shame that tesco's doesn't do the same to its fuel what it does to its food and provide you with extra horses under the hood.

I have had my RCZ for over a year now, I tried v power once whilst the engine was still tight, but could not see any difference as my MPG was still increasing. Now with 11000 miles on the engine I am trying it again but it will be 600-700 miles before I can report back.

you will likely need a few fill ups to see the benefit of it :)
