Servicing Cost

Hi All,

Just curious what the average price people have been quote for their car services on the RCZ GT200?

Mines now coming up for its first years service and when i booked it in with my local dealership I've been quoted £375 which seemed quite alot more than any other cars i had previously, so wanted to check if i was being ripped off or if this is correct? The garage claimed they did other checks than normal like replacing air filters etc. as it is more of a performance car than their others? If this is true does anyone know what extra checks/parts they replace for this?

Thanks in advance.

I got quoted £350 which did make me laugh as when I asked why so much again got told performance car! Also they said spark plugs need changing! Mines the diesel so no spark plugs lol, look at the cost of the parts on eBay I done my old Honda civic type s myself I changed the oil and filter + cabin filter and air filter all for £50 in parts so take it they do the same only 45 mins to change with my dad helping so they want around say £300 hour labour! I couldn't care less if they say sports, performance it's a engine at the end of the day my motorcycles ie yamaha r1 1000cc power to weight was 850bhp per ton was the same service as a 400cc bike! Just more oil same stuff so saying performance is just a way to price it up! My old man is a old school mech can fix anything and not cost a arm and a leg! I even had a little 206 fail a MOT told it would cost £600 for Halfords to fix! Phoned my old man in panic as didn't have that much and wanted to sell! One trip to mine £100 spent most on a battery it didn't need at time of MOT and it past!! Half the stuff they made up and didn't need changing so watch yourself guys

Hi dave3005 and all :greetings-wavingblue:

I read such posts with interest and agree with all that is said about "performance car" NONSENCE in an attempt to justify the inflated cost ! In short most of what they do is a simple check and inspect and the 'schedule' of the service carried out OR to be carried out will detail that fact.

If you are an enthusiast then some of the check and adjust/ top up if necessary is much of a nonsense really as you probably top up your own washer fluid, and tyre pressures, inspect wiper blades etc anyway and don't really need to pay around £90 per hour for the privilege PLUS a free car wash that most enthusiasts/detailers definitely do NOT want.

If you don't have a mechanical interest it is easy to believe all that a dealer may lead you to believe about their service cost ,BUT when so many are not even aware of the known faults discussed in this Forum it does make you wonder. If you look at the service cost breakdown "Labour" makes up the is the main cost usually followed by an extortionate cost for 'oil' that they attempt to justify by quickly stating, "Fully Synthetic"! (check out the price of Total ineo ecs online OR even in their Parts Dept and it will be cheaper & for more of it too).

Once you have had your service its always a good idea to have a look under the bonnet when you get home to ensure that the little things such as clips and cable supports etc have been replaced as for some reason its these things that are often missed in their quest to fettle what they term and charge for as a "performance engine". :eusa-think:

OH, and the guy who mentioned his Yam R1 is quite right in that such bike engines are far FAR more of a performance engine  and are a lot more difficult to work on (just to get to the spark plugs etc arrrgh) yet they don't cost as much to service AND they are without a complex diagnostics system to identify any concerns to the car Technician carrying out the service on your Z'.

Don't get me wrong I don't mind paying ,,I just don't like being taken for a ride without knowing it ! AND beware the "upsales" as I believe they are now termed!

.the big blue (..YES he of the Forum back benches is still alive  ..& long may his rants live to take up much space in such posts !)

Ok thanks for the info guys, so it sounds like the price they quoted me is about normal but is still a rip off for no real reason by sounds of it? Unfortunately, neither me or my dad would have a clue where to start if doing it ourselves so would not be an option for me :(

Tianorth, that sounds interesting that you managed to book online for £110 though! i may try that then, was it on the official Peugeot site? The link you posted made it sound like the postcode sat nav upgrade was £120 rather than the whole service? Although i didn't know there was an update for that which would be nice if included too- as trying to find postcodes currently can be a real pain!

The service quoted was £110, at the same time they were supposed to update the firmware to 2.77 (for the RT6) and also update the maps (£129), I posted this in the sat nav update as I said was supposed to be done at the same time.

I have the update discs for the RT6 firmware which will update it to 2.80 (if you have the latest maps you will get 7 digit postcode) if you want these I can get them forwarded on if you like?
Just pm your details, I only have RT6 not NG4, (you only get 7 digit with both firmware and latest maps, cheapest option is update firmware and then see if you have latest maps, if not latest maps these can be ordered at a later date).

As for the service I went through my service book and put an asterisk next to the service items for my engine.
This will stop you getting confused when talking to someone as you don't have to read the whole blurb and understand it if they come out with some bull as they tried with me (about it invalidating my warranty).
I then wrote it out on a piece of paper what the item was and also the frequency of change.

When I booked online I had a choice of 3 garages in my area each with a different price.
The voucher for £20 off is in the mypeugeot website under My offers and is still there.

Hope this is useful.
Chris

All services are a rip off. One handy wave of saving a little is by purchasing and providing all the oil, filters and fluids that require replacing and telling the dealership to use those that you have provided and discount accordingly. It soon saves a whack of money. It does require a little unwavering negotiation on your part and you will have to ensure that all that you provide meets the manufacturer's specifications but you'll all have realised this already.

Thanks, I checked all my 3 local ones and got prices of 375, 360 and 325 (which is one i booked it with and quoted me 375..) but thanks for the £20 off voucher which puts it down to £305.

Does the price really vary that much around the country? That's crazy, but as i'm already a few weeks late booking up services I might just go with £305 this year as its at least £70 cheaper, but in future id be better booking a hotel for a night somewhere else and making a break away with the money i'm saving, and possibly buying the oil etc as suggested too.

Out of curiosity how do i tell which model sat nav and version maps i am running, as i tried to look but could't see it say anywhere?

Even more confused now, i was playing about with both my new number-plate and old number-plate (changed it yesterday and got 2 diff prices (this one only being £199 which is more like what you guys said) but far fewer options on the old plate (which it was already booked in under currently) - is this the same option the rest of you booked in or is there something different about this one (it seems same price almost as the 3yr+ service which is £195) but its description says its the same as the other 1st year one?

Old plate:

New plate:

Is it worth trying to see if i can get that price quoted or would there be a reason why its cheaper on my previous plate?

If memory serves me right the dark blue part states that it is for your particular vehicle at a certain mileage or age.
If both plates refer to your car book the cheapest price and then let the dealership know you have changed you plates.
As they know it's for your vehicle and mileage/age, then price quoted is to keep your car within warranty.

Which is where my dealership tried to say it was for cars outside of warranty.

I can't believe they are just going to change oil and filter. Even on my HDi they changed oil and filter, pollen and fuel filters for 1st service even though mine had done less than 11k.

If you read the the above thread (earlier in this post) there are pictures of the RT6 and how to find version.

That is shocking service from the main dealer in Sheffield. Did you take them up on their offer to re-do the service? They must have been embarrassed! If this happened to me I would send a letter of complaint to Peugeot UK. I guess. however, this might upset your dealer which might not be great.

Wow that is an even bigger rip off, if they don't even do the work they claim.

I Just tried getting them to agree to the £199 over the phone but they said if i bring in proof they will see what they can do- but claim the parts alone would cost them that much on my car, and they cant seem to get near the prices quoted online, so not sure how that will work. *Fingers crossed*

If i get a quote online at £199 do they not legally have to give me that price or false advertising or something?

I printed off all the pages (screen prints), from reg and mileage, to which service, to price quoted.
Also printed the service details from mypeugeot site.

Once booked and confirmed, if they then argue about it just stand your ground.

Go armed with information on what is needed for your service to keep it within warranty.

Don't forget to let them know if you have the £20 voucher.

Ok Thanks, I'll do the same then and see how i get on, wish me luck.

I've got the voucher but it said to let them know before they start work on it, so is it ok to do that when i drop car off (hopefully once they agree to the cheaper price, I will then surprise them with my discount to get it cheaper  ) Or do i have to tell them prior to this?

Go on the side of caution and notify them when they confirm the booking (and get them to list it in their records), and don't forget to take it with you when the service is done.

Hi all,

Quick update- just dropped car off this morning for service and showed them online price of £199 which they have agreed to do it for but claim they were going to do the "recommended service" which included changing spark plugs and air filters etc, which according to my service book didn't need changing till 20K and I'm under 7K miles at moment, so told them i only want the scheduled one that will keep my warranty up.

So gone from £375 to £179 after my £20 off voucher - unless they call me with other work they want to do later today but hopefully not lol.

Only thing they did say that was that if there was any problems in future they could say its because you didn't get the recommended service parts replaced? Which didn't really make sense to me if my warranty is in tact and my service book says i don't need those bits replacing yet anyway? Presume it was just a way to try scare you and justify paying the extra.
