My RCZ at 65k miles wouldn’t start one morning and I was told by AA that timing belt was gone. Told by local garage to scrap it though it has perfect body work, FSH, garaged etc.
They are not specialists.

Specialist garage can change it to 2nd hand engine but I would prefer new engine. Peugeot tell me they are available

How do you go about this? My car means a lot to me and I will like to keep it.
anyone able to advise me. I live in the West of Scotland

are you happy that engine failure has been diagnosed correctly?

there have been posts on here of owner's sourcing new/recon engines from Peugeot UK, the one I remember was for the 270 THP engine and Peugeot had them in stock; it was an expensive undertaking as the Main Dealer did all the work think it was many many £000's and the the Owner had electrical sensor gremlins/issues a year later and outed the car.......

I have just sourced a 'new' engine for my MR2 low mileage later version etc and had a chap from a Forum undertake the engine swop for me.....it was a fraction of the price of Trade etc; I have no warranty but given feedback etc from other's the chap has a good rep and knows his stuff, if I was to need a new engine in my R at the (well after next year as it still under Warranty) very least I would not have a MD fit it as it would cost £££s.

First port of call if you want new is your local main dealer or try Fish Brothers/Peugeot Parts Direct for a price/availability of a new lump and a quote for delivery to your fitter of choice.....3rd party Peugeot specialist nearer to your home address?

Like what he said.....⬆️

I would want a second (and maybe third) opinion before spending that sort of cash.

Thanks for this. I will contact the parts specialists you mention and try to find out if there are any 3rd party specialists in the West of Scotland. I live 3 miles from a Peugeot franchise.

Here in Spain there are car scrapyards with shelves full of engines, they can even offer you a guarantee, although it would be difficult to find one of an RCZ since it is a rare car here, but I think that in the UK there are many more and it will be easier

Whatever you do get it done properly. Mine did the exactly the same at 71k and a VERY long story short its now un-driveable. Like yours perfect body work but its going to cost me a LOT of money IF I want to get it back on the road. Absolutely GUTTED

Advised to get it done through PEUGEOT or affiliate as can then get engine from Peugeot France. ( was in touch with Peugeot UK.
Probably hellishly expensive but it would be ‘official’. No idea of prices though engines not that expensive
Any comments?

I had a remanufactured engine put in mine at Xmas and it was £5.6k in the end even though the original work was 4.8k, other things happened including the actuator going. This was after they refitted the engine but ancialliries weren't covered and I couldn't prove they'd knackered the thing.

I wish I had gone to the main dealer as they quoted me pretty much the same price in the end.

It now has a "new" engine in it and drives better than it ever did. But I know when I come to sell it at the end of this or next year I will be losing money after that cost.

But you live and learn. I do love the look of my RCZ but it's less practical now that I go camping with the Mrs a lot.

The boot and back seats down allows me to get everything in but it's a pain having to pack and unpack in such a confined space with the fixed boot. If somehow the boot would open up a bit more I'd keep it but alas it wasn't meant o be :(

My god new engines from md and fitted u guys must have more money than sense now I have just gotten my self the Rcz tmp200 bhp
I got it with a engine problem bottom end loud
I’ve fitted main bearing and con rad big ends but this hasn’t fixed it fully to my liking
had a look for an engine costs 3000/2000 second hand now that’s not working for me so
I will take my engine out remove the head and send it in to my local engineering firm that I’ve done many good work for me over the years and have them re-ground the crank and sort the bottom end out total cost of having all that done New head gaskets bolts et cetera et cetera I expect to have a fully reconditioned bottom then for less than £600 so that £3000 secondhand bollocks at least if I build my own a fraction of the cost when I put my foot down I know what’s under the bonnet and I know it’s good because from what I’ve read these cars seem to have a problem with oil starvation because that’s what would appear to mine and us are extremely hard to get your hands on is the technical data to rebuild this Engine neon impossible to find an iPhone for 1 I’ve built many many many engines over the years but without the specs you’re pissing in the wind now thankfully I did manage to download some sort of manual from this site which was very helpful downside to that manual is it speaks in a language which may as well be totally foreign it talks about D/a as pounded for bolts and not the familiar newton/meters poundage Thankfully I found a converter online that converts DA into Newton/meters for example DA 0.9 into two would be 9 newton meters and d/a 3.0 is 30 newton meters this was the hardest thing about this job that I found finding the right Engine data was extremely hard but I would rather rebuild a bottom end and know I have a brand-new white on for a fraction of the cost of buying a secondhand don’t know what the fuck is going on Engine just my thoughts I thought I’d share them

Well when I t comes to an AA man or RAC
never take there word on anything they say as in my experience they will tell you something that cannot be fixed on the side of the road why because they get paid straight away to do so and they don’t have to carry out any work of any kind I’ve had many customers over the years bring cars to me I am a mechanic because AA said this or RAC said that be more than fair 99.9% at the time it had nothing to do with what they were told so once again I would get a second opinion from a different place and a very first reason being these engines don’t have a cam belt straight where the alarm should be ringing shortly they fitted with the timing chain get a second opinion always

Yes I’ve come across this on u tube apart from they go a long way around the point by way of touching the phone removing wheels and the hydro tension mechanism or lack of a better name to do instead of just pulling the tab on that mechanism which would’ve affected the water spinning fortunately this didn’t help me with my own but it’s well worth a try
