Scuffed RCZ alloys now peeling - help!

Hello all,

I cleverly scuffed three of my four alloy wheels on my new RCZ not long after I had the darn thing.

I have just noticed that just over a year later, where the scuffs are there appears to be the lacquer now peeling off.

Can anyone advise what can be done to stop the peeling, and even smooth out/get rid of the scuffs?

Are both generally expensive procedures?

If anyone can advise I'd be grateful.

Many thanks

In afraid that there really is no quick nor easy solution to this. Your only option is to have the wheels refurbished. Once moisture gets in below the surface then you will quickly see the effects of corrosion. There is no product on the market that will prevent or correct this safely. It's a refurb or corrosion I'm afraid. However, this isn't too expensive an option.

If you're going re-furb, I'd advise doing all 4. Colour match will never be perfect, so one will stand out. Another alternative - albeit expensive - is to buy 4 new wheels, swap them, get your existing wheels refurbished and use them for winter tyres (assuming you have storage space).

Hi I have recently been searching for an RCZ and noticed that most cars a couple of years old with the Solstice wheels which are black with a shiny alloy outer edge had flaking of the original lacquer. One car I was interested in at a dealers an 11 plate was due to have the wheels refurbed under warranty! I must admit that most RCZ's I've looked at had some flaking to the painted wheels to be honest poor quality. The car I eventually bought a 2010 Launch model with matte black wheels has the same problem and I've looked into having them done Drive in Drive out service £408 all in and that it should be done in the same day! That's powder coat as well not just paint.
That's from The Wheel specialist. In Leeds but I think there a Franchise so are scattered around the country. I've not heard of anyone who's used them but I believe they have a showroom where you can see the quality and colour finishes.

Not much point having a showroom. Quality will be down to the individual franchisee. No comparison can be made by anybodies experience, unless of course they used the same outfit as you intend using.

I know that sickening feeling when you scratch your alloys. It happened on my other 2 cars and it's hard to fully restore to it's original appearance especially if you have black on yours. But I think a refurb will definatley help a huge amount and make you feel better about your car once you have them looking smoothed out again... even if they wont be 100% it's still worth doing! :auto-car:

Would all agree it is down to the shape of car? and awkward to judge maybe.

No I wouldn't agree. We have dipping door mirrors, so there is no excuse for bad driving.

Sadly my Sport doesn't have them, it's a GT spec thing. That said I'm pretty sure it's just a software setting. The mirrors are already motorised so it just needs enabling via software but that'll be locked down by Peugeot and not available to us mere mortals

Hi OO58RON :greetings-wavingblue: ...please don't be so harsh as whenever I hear of kerbed alloys I shed a tear for I feel their anguish and pain! Nowadays for Me, onyx nail varnish is my only comfort!

The dipping door mirrors are great for the rear but the front with its high windscreen base and high bonnet/wing profile and 235 with 40 aspect ratio tyres do take some getting used to

.the big blue (...and i've bought more onyx nail varnish than any man should) !!

Hi wrapper, :greetings-wavingblue: ...trust me, the nail varnish is a must for those with onyx sortilinge's who wish to conceal their indiscretions ! Of course its never going to replace a professional strip back to bare metal and paint job etc BUT is on par with the cheaper overpaint refurbs available if its just the dare I say it regular lil scrapes you get until you get better acquainted with the intricacies of piloting your Z' near those damn sneaky devilish kerbs !!

.the big blue (..campaigning to de-stigmatise the application of nail varnish by men ,,ON THEIR CARS WHEELS !)

Well i have never kerbed any of mine YET but i have noticed a roughing of the edges on the solstice models. And if you maybe use a lint type duster on them..it can look worse and makes them kinda furry if you know what i mean.I will bear that nail varnish thing in mind though. Meanwhile can you recommend a nice perfume?
I always like your posts as you interject some humour on the forum.Always a good thing.

Hi all' :greetings-wavingblue:

...if its solstice wheels that you have then clear nail varnish could be a way forward, apply as a temp measure over the edges of freshly picked bubbled lacquer, this in lieu of the furry appearance adopted by some for their own perverse reasons I guess ,,Judge Not as we all like to individually customise our Z's ..BUT "furry wheels" pls what do you want me to say!

As for my request to recommend a nice all season's perfume?? :eusa-shhh: ..I recommend DoDo's eau d' Purple Haze ,,all the way baby, and it comes in handy discreet 30ml pocket sized pots AND will give you a good water beading appearance as well as an alluring whiff !

.the big blue (...the Forum back bencher on hand with both invaluable Z' , Nail varnish and Scent advice) ...NEXT !

...OH ,,,and how folk kerb their wheels is their own personal business BUT remember the police are watching and stating one was allegedly asking the lady for directions doesn't wash ,,,AND like OO58RON once exclaimed, with dipping mirrors theres no excuse (sorry Ron but couldn't resist) ,,BUT I do agree that vigilance prevents such minor indiscretions/ scuffs dipped mirrors OR NOT !

.the big blue (...SERIOUSLY, pls don't take the above as a form of confession as to how I kerbed by wheels !)

Never kerbed any car until my RCZ - it's a kerb magnet! I use permanent black marker pen. Hides the nasty silver bits on my magical black alloys and no need for a steady hand or messy paint. Hardly a professional finish but the eye isn't drawn and I have no faith that I won't do it again so I'm not going to have them refurbed over and over again.
