Rusting on Wheel Hubs

This is particularly bad on my RCZ and before I refer the matter to my dealer under warranty - is it just me and is it normal to experience this? Apart from anything else it looks unsightly.

Any advice/guidance greatefully received.

It's the alloys on the RCZ that show it up have a look at every BMW there the exactly the same only with there rims u don't notice it unless ur looking for it

I'd agree with this - mine also has rusty hubs but I only notice it becuase of the huge 'gaps' in my solstice rims. The Mrs' car has rusty hubs too, but it isn't as noticable due to the alloys having smaller 'gaps'.

I'd probably still look to try and get them rectified if it annoyed you that much however and see what they say. If you succeed, I may even try!

Unfortunately, this is a common problem with most cars, caused by the level of heat generated by the brakes. As already stated it is far more noticeable on the RCZ due to the wheel design. I did get mine repainted courtesy of Peugeot UK however they are beginning to get bad again. A coat of Hammerite is realistically the best solution to the problem. It really isn't a warranty issue more a nuisance issue. The only upside is the wheels do look good even if they do show the hubs rather too much.

Painted my hubs in the first week of ownership, over 2 years ago, used Hammerite silver, they still look as good today.

Ill probably be painting mine black when I get my new wheels It should make them less noticeable at least.

BMW's AND RCZ are the only cars i have noticed this on :thumbdown: never happened to any of my other car's that includes 2 fiats my honda hubs where perfect and the focus has black painted hubs.......so they wont rust.

In my opinion it cheapens the look of any car seeing rust on the hubs especially when its only 3 months old like it did on my rcz, and ron its nothing to do with heat generated by braking its sub standard paint, cheap & nasty.

My focus has proper red caliper paint its just like the calipers have a red plastic coating over them.... a caliper glove say the rcz where covered in a silver spray paint from a aerosol can... and rusting calipers are different from rusting hubs

Which part are we talking about? I didn't think you could see the hub at all as it is behind and inside the disc? Is it the centre of the disc you mean?

But what is more sacrilegious is that you are not cleaning the insides of those Solstice alloy's.

Those hubs are very rusty.

Jassy, you should see the hubs on the Discovery 4s. Both of my husband's have been really bad. They are the worst I've ever seen.

Despite what jassy says. It is a feature of modern cars, but very noticeable on the RCZ due to the wheel design. I will be repainting mine with silver Hammerite at the earliest opportunity. But got too many claims on my time at the moment.

They are rusty, but they don't bother me enough to do anything about it plus I wouldn't have a clue how to spray them with Hammerite/black paint safely. If someone does and wants to put up a guide, please enlighten the naive!

As Jactac kindly pointed out, yes they are dirty. This photo was taken a week or so after me buying, before I had discovered the correct washing/detailing procedures so I am surely forgiven? They don't look like that now :thumbup: here was me just trying to help aid our new members' understanding with photos...

I know this is an old topic but just noticed this to day my mates 6 month old Audi A5 S line. And folks think Peugeot's hubs are bad truly shocking and the brake calipers are even worst.

Best way is clean , spray and clear lacquer . Including caliper. Lasts a good year and looks a lot better than orange peel hammerite.I do all my cars this way , looks factory ;0)

1 WEEK AFTER I BOUGHT IT .....





Halfords brake caliper paint. Goes on really well. Just give them a good wire brushing and clean with brake cleaner and dry well before painting :thumbup:
