roof arches

Hi all, I have been cleaning cars for 45 years ( first paid job).
I understand that some people are into hot waxes, detailing, sealers and other stuff...
my simple rules are, wet car first by hose,
hand wash with secret wash below, start with roof, work down and finish with wheels
rinse with hose, chamois dry, buff with dry cloth.
and polish occasionally ( every 3 cleans ?)
Avoid Auto Car Washes like the plague !
The Secret Wash, 1 LARGE Splurt of Tesco Washing up liquid, in a bucket of HOT water.

and the best polish I have found is Mer from Amazon.
Believe me I have tried them all over the years.
* Use it on the arches, apply in line with arches with soft cloth, leave to dry for 1 min, wipe off with clean cloth in line only.
I have only had the car a couple of weeks, but found that this cures rain spot watermarks, stone dead.

Call me an old fart, say what you like, it works !

I was once a "Mer" man too. Can still remember those demonstrations when they set the bonnet alight after applying the stuff. Not sure why they did that? Maybe so that when you get old like me and loose your memory, you will recall Mer polish. Still have some in the shed (gathering dust  )

If you are happy with that then that's all that matters but it's not for me.

You have no protection on your car to protect it from the elements and you really shouldn't need to polish your car every 3 washes. As for washing up liquid ?! it's the worse thing you could use.

So have I and I'm only in my 30s!!!
I used to be a 'basic' washer prior to my RCZ. Never had any praint problems with my cars from my dark China blue 306 (paintowrk like glass) and they oh-so-easy to keep yellow 207.

Kath has shown me the error of my ways over the past year and I'm anal about keeping my RCZ looking her VERY BEST.

BUT Parling, if you're happy with the results you get, then that's all that matters. Stick around here long enough and you'll soon change your ways!! :eusa-whistle: :eusa-whistle:

I have swirls on the silver arches,

can the arches be machined polished with a DA to remove the swirls?

Will it effect the finish?

If this is not possible can you recommend a very good swirl filler which is not abrassive

Thanks

Has anyone one come up with a answer to gatt767 question on what to use to polish out the swirl marks he has on his arches ?

OK I can take it....

The Tesco Washup is instead of fancy car shampoo.
If you read my post again I was saying the MER works on the arches, and it does.

Why not? It's happening to the rest of us :) lol

Washing up liquid contains a very small amount of bleaching agents.
With frequent use it will gradually bleach any unpainted plastic trim parts (e.g. bumper strips, rubbing strips, window surrounds).
You also need to make sure that you rinse it thoroughly otherwise it streaks and then the only way to get them out is by machine polishing :(
