I got my RCZ after my dealer had written to me and asked me to get in touch. The letter said it wasn't a circular and although I figured it was aimed at selling me another car I thought I would pop down and see what was on offer.

I was told that only 150 people nationwide were sent the letter / ref number from Peugeot and it was sent to me because my car was coming up for two years old. I had actually only had the car for 8 months and was a offered around £3k less than what I paid but I figured having put nearly 10k miles on in that time it wasn't a bad deal.

We have had 4 cars from this dealer now and while I guess they are making their money from us we don't feel shortchanged by the deals we have done so far..

1.6 THP GT (200BHP) 10,000 miles (standard car) excellent condition 1 year old
Original Price £25,605
Franchised Dealer £20,050
Independent Dealer £19,690
Private Good £18,975
Private Poor £16,470
Part Exchange £17,540

I know its not exact but it does show that they are trying to buy off you way below what it should be worth unless it needs a lot of work being done to it.

for those curious this is what you get with a 156 GT under same conditions

Original Price £23,255
Franchised Dealer £18,705
Independent Dealer £18,370
Private Good £17,700
Private Poor £15,365
Part Exchange £16,365

and don't try we buyanycar.com out of curiosity I did a quote for my car they offered my 14,700 for my car. You can guess what my response is to that with a year old RCZ

and you got to remember in the 1st year cars take the largest hit especially with these kind of cars in the current climate sadly

No, fair point RCZ 1,

I tell the potential purchaser that there is outstanding finance first, so they know.(This would show up on an Hpi check anyway) If they have a problem I could pay the car off with a credit card first, after getting certain assurances from them (deposit etc) for obvious reasons. The guy that bought the Fiesta was happy for me to pay this off immediately after purchase, which I did, and gave him written proof that there was no longer any finance on it. I spoke to Ford finance before selling, about this option, and they were quite happy for me to do it that way.

Hey snowy,

I know it was an old post but wanted to comment anyway as it may benefit future buyers and sellers reading this.

Firstly you are right to say people should be honest about a car if it's on finance. This will actually make the buyer feel more comfortable and know you are being honest and not wondering what else you might be trying to hide.

With regards to paying it off there a number of options.

Pay off using a CC as you mentioned but just make sure any deposit taken on the vehicle will cover at least a months repayment incase the sale falls through.

Another option is to have the buyer pay off the finance directly prior to collection and pay you the remainder. When I sold my last car there was still a little left to pay and the buyer transferred a payment direct to the finance company from hsbc as I watched and then transferred the remaining balance to me. One thing I would say though is that you should get confirmation for the finance company they have received payment and let them know what is happening.

One thing I should mention is that car history checks won't show logbook loans. So be careful and never buy a car without a logbook. ;)

Why are people always so surprised about first year devaluation on a new car? Drive it out the showroom and you lose 20% in VAT instantly. Then the on the road fees. So on your £25k it's over £5k gone I an instant!!

In terms of relative depreciation you will find the Pug actually holds its own quite well. Someone posted a graph on it on another thread.

A 998 loses £30k in its first year.....

I've heard our retail guys say this twice this week to customers and I've only worked there for 4 days.

Easily on par with most European manucfacturers.. But also worth noting that extras - cruise control, heated seats, parking sensors etc would be extras with the German manufacturers. Got to love the GT spec's fullness.

Found an RCZ R with 2000 miles at R&D Preston, have a friend who works for them at that dealer so whizzed my details across to him for a part ex/trade in value for my 2011 Blue RCZ (156 GT) with Black Sortilege Alloys 34,000 miles and in pretty much showroom condition, thanks to it being detailed in January with Modesta BC-03 coating, oh and alloys fully refurbished too. WhatCar valuation in Poor condition is over £10,500 for trade with Private sale price in Excellent condition (what it is) being £12,300. I was offered £9600.....
I appreciate your car is always worth more to you than a dealer, but even so!!!
Back to getting the mortgage paid off in the next 4 years instead then it is in that case!!

Thats a trade in price :wtf: A Private sale is always the best price, but looking into the figures l would say £10,800/£11,000...How much was the R...?? AND ALSO....a PCP/PCH Deal would give you more room for manouvre, buying a car outright these days is always the most expensive in everyway

As some of you will know I bought a 156 GT back in April. It was an ex demo with black pack xenons and metallic paint. I picked it up with 1250 miles for £19,000. It now has done £8,500 miles and I ran it through the computer to find out what it was worth. In excellent condition it's showing £14,500

The RCZ R was £23,995, so a massive saving on brand new. All the Pug finance is well over 12% APR from them, I wouldn't touch it with a bargepole to be honest, even the PCP was very high. I bought my one almost 3 years ago 6 months old, 9,500 miles for £18,995. It was the R price which made me look to see what mine is worth. I think £11,000 would be very low personally, Ford's of Winsford a big car supermarket quoted me just under £11,000 on their website :/ If I do decide to sell it I reckon it will be privately, I was hoping a cash buyer you would get the best deal, obviously not!!

*Edit* Just valued RCZ R with 2000 miles on clock with whatcar, excellent condition £23,000....ripped off at both ends. Will save the cash for another time!

That is a quite simply ridiculous valuation. My own car wasn't terribly dissimilar to your own. I had perhaps half the mileage that yours had and black solstice alloys (all of which had had better days and were shoed on winter tyres). I traded it in in April for 14.2k (top book price was 13.5k). I'd be telling them to get stuffed and go elsewhere...or just keep enjoying the car that you have now.

variations are very up and down these days... I bought my second one from a dealer - only 12k miles, satnav blah blah blah and it was under £12k ...

dread to think what the lass got as a trade in price!

Also not sure how a dealer selling at £23,995 is rip off? Even charities really need to make a profit even if that profit is ploughed back into the dealership. Yes I work for a dealer and I hope to continue to do so but let's face it I won't last long if I don't make them some money.

£24k fir the RCZR IS very good but they gain with the higher interest rates, used car's have always a higher rate of interest

Again going off the Whatcar/Parkers valuation incredibly the value from that is £23,000 for a 63 plate RCZ R with 2,000 miles. Now I appreciate these are a guesstimate and I admit £23,995 is actually a good deal, but for them to boost their value and completely undervalue mine (supposed to be a friend too remember!!!) is a bit insulting. It also has a transferrable extended warranty for a year which expires in May 2015 too!!
Funnily enough I am the Chair of the Board of Trustees for an animal charity in the North West and fully aware the need to make profit, but there is a line between doing so and greed in my opinion. Put simply if we started charging people what it truly costs to rehome an animal we never would rehome one, we get that money back from our reasonably priced charity shops instead plus future donations from making people very very happy (myself included)

Their PCP worked out that I would be paying close to £29k overall with the max deposit and the HP was about £27k, suddenly seems less of a bargain with their higher interest rates, if they offered me £11,500 then it is a different ballgame with the balance able to be paid without the need for finance, yes it is only £2k but in that time I can free that up the car will probably be sold. Not the end of the world, I love my car, if they did the RCZ R in Dolphin Blue then it would be a different matter!
