Replaced Battery - Just For Info.

I recently replaced a car battery going from the factory fitted battery to a new one. I saw a few people had fitted the slightly larger battery so went ahead and bought this from Halfords, got it home and fitted it. I won't bore you with all the different tests I did but it wouldn't start.
The electrics all worked fine and I could tell the battery had enough juice but it wouldn't turn over. In the end I got it replaced and started first time and is running sweetly.
The battery I replaced it with was drawing Amps and was fully charged but for some reason my car didn't like it and the OBD said it was low voltage even though it was putting out 12.8V. I even tried jump starting it from another car but with this battery it just wouldn't do it.
Just thought I'd share as if I hadn't known tests to do etc. Halfords were suggesting I get an auto electrician out!

So just to be clear, the car had some problem “recognising” the battery?

and when you took it back did you get another (the same) Halfords battery ie was the one you had just a dud ?

Yeah pretty much although the battery I bought wasn't "showing" as a dud as it was charged fully and would provide Amps when load tested.

The car electrics all worked except for starting. It made a 1 click noise when trying to turnover but the starter didn't actually engage to start and so wouldn't "crank".

When I got a new battery from them I just connected it via jump leads to my dead battery (as that's the only way the car would start, through a jump on the dead battery) and it started straight away.

It was a weird one but if Id not been happy to test and play about I could have easily forked out on an auto electrician and be no further forward as the battery in theory looked ok. I almost forked out on a new fuse board on top of the battery as a few posts on here mentioned that it was prone to 'going'
