RCZ winter use?

Hello all,
I usually buy a spare set off winter wheels & tyres for all my vehicles. I live in the U.K (North), so weather very hit & miss over the winter period. May or may not have a bad winter. Has anyone had experience with the rcz & 18" alloy wheels with summer tyres fitted on snow & ice? Obviously it's a fair outlay to buy 4 alloys with winters, for occasional bad weather use. Does anyone know of any steel wheels that would fit the 1.6 sport?

I have 19's with summer tyres. I have had no problems running on the winter roads in Yorkshire. This was my second winter with the Z, and I can honestly say it's one of the better handling cars in dodgy conditions I have had. ( I have had EFAD training though, so I do know how to handle a slide)

I think it's pretty obvious that winter tyres must give a better ride when roads get serious, but if like me you find the cost prohibitive, I think you will be pleasantly surprised by your Z with standard boots. Just know your limitations.

Thanks for the info. The RCZ is the wifes car really, I will use it from time to time. Enjoy it too.
I'm pleased to hear its not too bad for winter use. May stick with the summers, if weather gets too harsh. She could always use my landy. I live right on the North Yorkshire boarder :thumbup:
At least I now have a spare sorted for her. Can not do without a spare, gunk kits are rubbish.
Its only the second pug we've ever owned in over 30 years of driving, my last a 309 gti saloon lol.
Pug has covered 28k on a 2014. Just checked the front pads & discs, around 50% left on the front. Took wheel off to make sure it would fit in boot.
Sounds like a pos boot lock melt down.
Do you know where the diagnostic port is? May check it with my code reader tomorrow. Found it, under ash tray.

I hope that's all it turns out to be. From reading previous experiences on here, it does sound very similar. You seem to know what you are doing with it anyway.
Just have a read through the various threads regarding common faults - sill problems when jacking the Z which has that area made of soft cheese - timing chain tensioner issues - coil packs - sensors - these are about all the common issues, especially with MK1 Z's although the sill thing is common accross all models. Most people don't have any problems though, so your wife is in for a real treat now she has a mighty Z. :thumbup:

Thanks for info. I'll keep you posted regarding window issue. Think we've been a bit unlucky, got off to a bad start. Dealer put a new set of budget tyres on the front too. Can't was to have them changed. What year did they get a face lift?

Dealer put Nexen N8000 on the front of mine. At first I was a bit miffed that they didn't consult with me as to which tyres to put on, would have thrown in some cash for something better. But to be honest, they're not half bad

Facelift models from 2013 so your is definitely a Mk2 at 2014. The most noticeable aesthetic difference is the addition of LED running lights at the expense of front fogs. The front grill is different too.

There were quite a few "behind the scenes" changes too, which apparently included the updated timing chain tensioner, which seems to have been one of the more common problem on the MK1's.

They changed the NG4 unit for the RT6 too, but I'm not sure if that happened at exactly the same time as the bodywork update.

Nexen's are not bad. Fitted to new cars now
Some of them are now 'A' wet rated. Around half the price of a conti.
I've had nexens in the past, found them to be quite good. The newer nexen brands are even better. The ones i have on now are very much budgets. Not heard of the name. Not tested them in the wet yet either.

Yes I noticed the LED's when wife came I'm. Liked them.
Good idea about the uprated tensioner. My neighbour has an Pug 08 1.6t gti. Just had a new timing chain. Due to rattle. Only covered 30k from new. Not sure whether its the same engine?
Ringing garage in morning to see if I can get the window sorted under warranty.

Update. Rung a couple of dealers today. Explained issue, boot lock possibility. Both said they'd never heard of any boot lock problems lol.
Its going in next Mon to be looked at under warranty. Earliest I could get it in.
My code reader is a d900. It looks like the right plug, won't fit over the clip on the cars obd port/socket at the top.

Well, if they haven't heard of the boot lock issue, let them play about with window motors, switches etc etc, and then they might finally decide to have a look at the actual issue as pointed out to them by the customer. :helpme:

I just hope the problem recreates its self when it goes in.
At least they're not charging initially to have a look, prior to having warranty work done/authorised. Like some dealerships I've had experience with.

Further update.
Having had time to give the possible fault further thought.
It may have been down to passengers error (me), possible I'd opened the window slightly after leaving car. As it was my first visit in the passengers seat. Was raining heavily. Neighbour had came over at same time as I was opening door. When I tried to replicate the fault. It may have been the shadow beneath the upper door seal/lip that made me think it had dropped slightly. It was raining heavily, so didn't hang around. Have tried to replicate the fault again over 20 times with no success.
Have now cancelled the dealers on Mon lol.
I'll keep an eye on it. If it were to occur again
I'll post info. At the moment I'm not sure.

Well that's a result right there :thumbup:

When you open the door on a Z, like certain other cars that don't have a frame around the window, the glass drops a centimetre or two, and goes back up once the door is closed, forming a seal against the door frame rubber.

This might have contributed to your opinion that there was a fault. :eusa-think:

Still, no fault = no repair = no cost :dance:
