Thank you for reading this... it is NOT the usual will not start problem.
The car will not start.... I turn the ignition key once, the dashboard lights come on as usual, but after 5 seconds or so, all the dashboard lights go out.
I try again and try to get key to position 2 to crank the engine.... nothing whatsover.... lights go out again.
No clicks or anything.
I called the AA (I am a long term member).... the patrolman spent over an hour and could not start the car.
Everything appears ok.... battery ok, key fob ok, fuel pump ok, starter motor, all fuses, all earths, etc etc etc.
He checked every fuse under bonnet, under dashbaord, took steering wheel down to check ignition switch etc etc etc..... nothing .
After the hour, he gave up and suggested I get an auto electrician.
My usual garage doesn't have one..... they suggest I get it to a local dealer....but...
The car has 'locked' itself in Park, so cannot be rolled onto a trailer?

Any ideas PLEASE.... thank you.

I know that you said all the fuses have been checked just wondering if you missed the fuses under the fuse box near the battery box as there's some maxi fuses there and could well be one of those. Worth a look
Please let us know how you get on..

Hello, thank you so much for your reply. I watched the AA man for over an hour and didn't see him go 'under the fuse box' at all. I have now been in contact with an auto electrician and he is due to visit hopefully over this weekend.... I shall make sure he knows about these other fuses...Thank you. Yes, I shall keep you posted with any news. My car sounds similar to yours but in pearl white. Half cream seats and the larger 19" alloys.

I had similar issue. In my case it was faulty BSM control unit.

Hi everyone.... fingers crossed it was fixed today. 2 auto electricians later. The first tried for 1 and an half hours and could only give me a list of possibilities to try. second electrician far better.... Over 3 visits.... Tried every fuse in all 3 locations. Tried a new BSI/BSM/BCM control unit... no luck.... checked all the wire connections everywhere... had a large diagnostic computer thingy which he seemed to go through endless stages. Managed to 'short circuit' the system and got the car started easily, but lots of error codes started appearing on the pop up screen. Mainly..''Gearbox error''. An issue with the gearbox ECU meant the car brain would not allow it to start and for good measure kept it locked in Park ... what a nightmare.... so we needed a replacement gearbox ECU. So, after many hours work, I am a few hundred pounds lighter, but I have a car that now goes again.
Thanks to Verminator and Nemi for your replies.
