RCZ Sport versus GT - 156BHP Petrol

Hi

I have been privileged to drive a Peugeot 406 Coupe SE (2.0, petrol, auto) since 2003. Best car I have ever owned on many levels.

However, my coupe is coming up to 15 years of age; still drives like new, in particular the engine, but genuine Peugeot parts availability is starting to become an issue. If Peugeot still made a worthy coupe, then a replacement car would be not be an issue, but alas after 50+ years of Pininfarina designs/and production there no such option, except from the lovely RCZ, which is not a genuine 4 seater.

So, may be next year I will take the plunge to change my car, as I do not have space for 2 cars.

My questions for you RCZ owners is, how much difference is there between:

156BHP Petrol - Sport and the GT, taking into account, on the GT Petrol has:

- Sports steering wheel (slight smaller than the Sport and flattened at the bottom)
- Short Shift gear lever
- Any suspension differences; Sport versus GT ?
Hoping I might hear that Sport does not feel much different, but has a better ride quality, due to the 18 inch tyres?

I am not Manual gearbox fan, unless the shift is short and quite smooth. To explain when I test drove a manual 406 coupe, 1 year after production stopped, I immediately knew there was no way I could live with a long, clunky gear shift of the 2.0 / 2.2 manual so I found a 9 month old Auto which has suited me.

In terms of low mileage RCZ Auto, I have probably left it too late ! There was a 2014 low mileage Auto, came on the market and sold within the week. Lucky person.

Any feedback welcome. Thanks.

The Sport and GT are just trim levels I believe.
The GT model may have come with a few extras included, but nothing that couldn't be added as an optional extra on the sport model.
Most sport models have the basic radio (RT5) I think which just has a hump on the dashboard for the display, but you can get it with either the RT6 system or NG4 system with the 7" pop up screen.
You can get a sport with the sports steering wheel and gear level.
Suspension would be the same.
Wheel would be 18" standard or 19" as option (might be included in some GT models)

Have a look at this site as he is also a member here.

I owned two Sports before buying my R. You can spec a Sport with the options you mentioned that may come as standard on a GT. The ride is smoother in the Sport with the smaller 18 wheels (which is why I went for that option originally due to mum being a regular passenger in the car) but having said that I don't think the GT is that harsh a ride. Buying second hand you will find well specced Sports.

hi i have the 200 sport & it comes with a flat bottomed smaller steering wheel & also the shorter gear shift. It also comes with the bigger 340mm front brake discs on the 18" wheels and a diffrent steering geometry to the 156 model. i do believe all manual 156 models will have a larger steering wheel and gear stick with the smaller brakes. I have a cloth trim as its a 2012 model and only the rear parking sensors with a standard dash radio etc but everything else is the same as the 200 gt model.

when i brought mine it had to be a 200 model & i also had the choices of the gt or sport i went for the sport based on the condition and how the car was maintained many of the gt's i looked at where quite badly presented way more mileage etc then i found the sport with 3 pug stamps in the book 1 owner and only 10.000 miles on a 3 yr old car just like new so i brought that model based on that.

strange coincidence i also have only had peugeot cars for the last 20 years (205 gti. 205 cti. 405, 206 gti, 207allure & now the rcz)

good luck....

This may sound daft, but one of the main reasons I went for a gt above the sport was the door trims!
Way nicer in the gt, I couldn't put up with the sport version.
